i am about to buy 2 240s... to make this easier, lemme go ahead and give u a discription of both..

1989 Hatch: good running SOHC engine... Beat up body, good interior, NO TITLE

1991 Hatch: Good body, fair insides, GOOD TITLE, the engine is what im worried about... the head is there, and most of the hardware, EXCEPT the parts that go on the front of the engine...(Pulleys, Belts, some hoses, etc).

see the problem is, i COULD swap the SOHC engine in... and it would last a little while at least. I have no experience in swapping, my step dad will help, but he doesnt know much about anything other than the good 'ole detroit iron.

OR i could try to complete the DOHC engine, and hope it runs. Will most parts off the SOHC swap over? what about the DOHC head on the SOHC engine? ( i know, far shot, but hell, worth asking)

I am working with a budget of *maybe* $1000.... is there any better swaps out there? for that price? what about CA motors, how good are they, and how much do they usually run?

also, id like to know if anyone has a list of Swappable items between the two engines...

for 1000 you really cant do much. BUT you can buy a KA24DE from the junkyard for like 500. A complete setup. THen you would have alot of KA parts from your existing 24DE that you could disassemble and send out for machine work and have a bad ass ka-t. If your into the whole engine moding thing. Thats probably your best route to be honest. I would either keep the ka24e and use for a daily driver or just part that car out and make some money.

i agree with chuki i think your best bet is to start with a new (to you!) DE and get that into the '91. then you can have the '89 to drive around while the '91 is in pieces, so you can take your time and do the swap right. also if you are considering modding the new DE later on, a new clutch would be good to do at the same time (while the engine is out), and that would take all of your budget but leave you with a good running DE with a clutch ready to take on future mods. and you can get some money at least for the old DE.

yea he's really not in a bad situation at all. Keep the 89 as a daily driver or what not. Then buy a new ka24de to replace your old incomplete one. THen build up the incomplete one and have a bad ass setup. Who cares if your car has dents dings, it just makes it that much more sleeper style. People are like wtf look at this pile, then you smoke his 60,000 viper....ok well maybe not that easily done lol but you get the point lol.

then after you build up your current incomplete DE. You could put that into the 91 (or 89, depends which one is in better shape i guess), and then put the stock DE you got from the junkyard into the other. And sell the ka24E that came in the 89 to the junkyard or part it out to someone in need of parts. You really have alot of options to be honest.

well i can drive them both now. But my coupe will be a weekend driver once i turbo it. Both are slightly modded.

hatch has full exhaust and coil overs and rims.

coupe has........intake filter, and almost fully stripped. i guess thats modded lol.

For the first time in history, a KA24DE will be swapped OUT for a KA24E.

well, i guess to a certain extent. Its just so he/she can have a running car lol.

are theyre any DE parts that will fit on the D motor that will improve it? just wondering... anyone happen to know any sites with used KA engines?

The DE and the D engines are the same engine....it's the D and E or the DE and E.
