How-To: XM Radio InstallHattrick 07-13-2005, 03:49 PM Parts Required: XM Roadie Pack (Includes XM Roadie 2 XM Radio Antenna Roadie cigarette adapter power supply Mount with universal swivel Wire Gatherer) Marine Epoxy Cable Ties Optional Parts: Extra enclosed Cigarette Lighter Plug Shrink Wrap Direct Connect for Head Unit Matched Xterra paint Wire grommet Tools Required: Cordless Drill or Dremel multi tool Phillips #2 Screwdriver Flat Blade Screwdriver Optional Tools: Soldering Iron Solder with rosin (Flux) core Sandpaper 1. Open driver side doors (front and rear) 2. remove weather stripping from both door molds. to do this grab upper lip of the stripping from inside the door jamb and roll the rubber to the outside of the vehicle in a downward motion. 3. open the covers on the rear door jesus bars and remove the screws and pull bar off of the inside paneling 4. remove the screw from the interior coat hanger next to the jesus bar. 5. at this point you can pull the headliner down a bit to see the interior of the roof. 6. check your antenna connector and select the correct bit size (around ½ inch) for the roof penetration. 7. now on the roof find the middle roof rack support on the drivers side. And measure out 1 ½ to 2 inches towards the rear of the Xterra from the centermost side of the roof rack. Make your penetration there. 8. de-bur the opening with a dremel grinding stone or sandpaper and let the metal cool. 9. place the antenna on the roof and center. Feed the antenna coupler through the penetration and out the side of the headliner at the rear door. Pull through excess wire 10. feed the coupler through the plastic liner above the driver side seat belt assembly and into the weather stripping groove of the drivers door. 11. feed all the way to the end of the weather stripping near the hood release. (You may have to replace the weather stripping as you go along) 12. from your roof placement of the antenna cable tie the cable to the underside of the crossbar. 13. at the crossbar T on the side bar feed antenna wire down the groove of the lower portion of the crossbar c clamp and cable tine in place. 14. cable tie to the middle roof rack support on the drivers side, and feed excess into the penetration. 15. once you are happy with the cable ties and placement of the antenna. Mix the marine epoxy and fill penetration to seal. 16. replace Coat hanger and jesus bar, close jesus bar clip caps 17. Replace all weather stripping. 18. run the wire behind the steering wheel kick guard attaching with cable ties to available wires and or standoffs, running it to the center panel. Use Philips head screw driver to remove lower center panel cover screws. 19. OPTIONAL STEP = on the rear of the lower center panel cover you will see the cigarette lighter rear end. Pull off the power clip. Clip and strip the Extra Cigarette Lighter Plug. Sand the top of the existing lighter socket lightly. Solder new negative lead to top of existing socket. Solder positive lead to the bend in the center pin on existing socket. Replace power clip to rear of socket. Insert XM power lead to new hidden rear socket. 19a. or connect power lead to outside jack and run cable under the lower center panel cover 20. OPTIONAL STEP = attach direct connect to the head unit. 21. Feed Antenna wire behind the lower center panel cover; join power cable and /or direct connect with antenna wire if necessary. 22. Remove bottom panel (which includes the glove box) from passenger side. Six screws total. 23. Feed either through left hand side glove box slider. OR drill a hole on the left hand side of the covered panel (I.E. hidden when the glove box is closed). If you drill, feed wires through and then place shrink wrap or wire gather on combined leads. Shrink it if necessary. Then place in wire grommet and fit into hole. 24. Place and fit universal radio mount. Check exposed wire length for fit. Collect extra wire behind panel and cable tie together. 25. Replace lower center panel cover and screws; replace bottom passenger side panel and screws. 26.
