Does anyone know the steps of removing my airbag from my 1997 Honda Civic to put a Sparco steering wheel with the horn function? I heard it was as easy as disconnecting the battery then removing.

I'd rather restore the car then give up and leave it the way it is. Don't you have any heart? It's not like I did'nt know what I was getting myself into when I sold my 1999 Mustang GT.

First u gotta find da star bit screwdriver or drill bit theres like 4-6 screws, take out airbag then get a long socket that'll fit the steering collum and unscrew it. MAKE SURE U HAVE THE ADAPTER KIT 4 UR CAR! It might go on hard it might not just grease da shaft and follow da instructions with da wheel. Good luck

I'll get the wheel off in a week or so, I'll be sure to email you. The wheel has a slit through it like someone put a knife into or something. If you still want it let me know.

I'm not sure. I wouldn't think so. The fella that had the car before me did some modifications and then put the car on ebay where I got it from. The SRS light is on in the dash board but I coundn't tell ya if that is what that light is meaning to say. I heard if the wheel was taken out with the airbag then replaced the light would still be on unless you took it to a dealership.

it get the light to go off, you need to have the light reset, then with the bat disconnected, pull all the SRS stuff out, including the SRS computer, then change out your wheel, and BAM! ne srs light if done correctly.

To remove the airbag form your vehicle, 1st disconnect the battery. 2nd wait 10 minutes for the capacitor to discharge. 3rd, remove the plastice coners on each side of the steering wheel exposig the 30 torx bolts. 4th remove the 2 bolts. The airbag is now free. disconnect the connectors by sliding the spring loaded plastic shell back. You're done

dude, 1 and ahlf year old thread.... im sure he has it done by now. and only removing the air bag itself will cause the srs light to go on, therefore making you fail any inspection your state has. you need to remove ALL the srs equipment including the bulb in the gauge cluster. (some people only remove the bag and bulb )
