What The Hell..!?!?xcusememisswyn 07-12-2005, 04:15 PM I have a 1996 240sx, i was washin it a couple days ago and then i was lookin under the hood and my brother decided to spray me, unfortunatly he got my engine wet too and now it runs like shit. Whenever im idling it bounces all over the place, the exhaust rattles against the underbody, and the idling goes from about 400 to damn near 0 then back to 400 a couple times the stalls all together. I pulled the MAFS plug and it stabilizes at about 700... so i think that is the problem... does this mean my MAFS is dirty, and if so how do i clean it? If its not that then does anyone else have ideas of what it could be...? sorry for the long post Chuki_breath 07-12-2005, 07:52 PM odd, i power wash my shit and it runs fine. Must have just been one of those days. xcusememisswyn 07-12-2005, 08:04 PM chuki... do u have an air intake, b/c i do and i think tahts where i messed up? Im gonna dry the MAFS but its been two days so i think it would be done... anyone got one lying around? also, could someone tell me where the AIV valve is? AWDSR20 07-12-2005, 08:26 PM SPARK PLUGZZ WIERZ!!!!! dry them (where the connect to the spark plugz)... the connectors are wet most likly.. xcusememisswyn 07-12-2005, 10:21 PM if it was the spark plugs would my idle still be stable when i pull the MAFS plug, b/c i think if it was a spark problem wouldnt it still mess up when the MAFS plug is out...IDK maybe im wrong? the car also runs fine when im driving in gear, just when the clutch is in or its in neutral is when it gives me shit. anyone know where the AIV valve is? and how to clean it b/c i read on 240sx.org it said thats a problem that may cause bad idle, and cleaning it can fix it. xcusememisswyn 07-13-2005, 12:14 AM i was runnin it in the dark tonite and the lights were dimming when it started to fall down to the low RPMs in the idle... just incase thats important nissan_240sx 07-13-2005, 02:08 AM The AIV is located to the left of the power steering resivour, its a little black box cant miss it. From 240sx.org Servicing the AIV (Air Intake Valve) We owe the inspiration to get the AIV valve out and serviced to Kitty47200 (sorry, haven't seen your names yet). They said they were doing that and had decent results. Anyway, The AIV is easy to do. We suggest NOT removing the whole assembly from the car. Just take a real hard look at it and find the 4- screws that hold the 2- halves together. Remove the small vacuum line to the top, the larger one, and take the 4- screws off. Pull the top half off and there is a kinda "cap" over the reeds. GENTLY pry the assembly out of the housing. There are 2-sets of reeds. We only did one at a time so we could see how they went back together. With a wire brush and a can of carb cleaner, all we had to supply was a little elbow grease. A&W '91 s13 240SXSlideStar 07-13-2005, 02:15 AM When I test drove this one S13, the thing idled fine and even ran fine upto like 3k, but after that it stumbled, we went to a gas station and with the air compressor, he sprayed in the hole where the plug wires go and a bunch of water came out and same for the distributor cap, he put it all back and it ran like a dream. (The water had goten in there when he washed the engine.) vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
