Oil pan plug gasket 1990 lumina APVCountDrac 07-12-2005, 10:54 AM A couple weeks ago I changed the oil of my wife's care and noticed it didn't have an oil plug gasket. I thougth nothing of it 'cause i read somewhere that some cars don't have one and if you add one it will cause the plug to leak. Last sunday I was checking the underside of the car and noticed oil leaking from the plug. Does this car need a gasket? (Haynes didn't mention it) If so can I refill the crankcase with the relatively new oil or should I buy new oil when I place a gasket? richtazz 07-12-2005, 04:37 PM IF your vehicle doesn't have a separate gasket, then the plug will have a rubber o-ring built in. IF it doesn't have an o-ring, then you need a gasket. As long as you use a clean pan to drain it into, there is no problem re-using the relatively new oil. CountDrac 07-12-2005, 04:45 PM Thanks, I will check in the weekend (the car only leaks 1 or 2 drops a day as far as I can tell). I can't recall feeling anything rubber on the plug, so the previous owner probably was just as green as I am. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
