Exhaust Emmisions Warning Lightneild 07-11-2005, 04:12 AM Hi All, The Exhaust Emmisions Warning Light has come on on my dashboard. Does anybody have any idea what this actually means? The manual says to take it to the dealer but it says that about everything. As the dealer charge an extortionate amount of labour charge I want to avoid them if I can. The car runs perfectly. It's a 2001 2.0 litre 8v. Thanks, -Neil turtlecrxsi 07-14-2005, 11:46 AM Have a mechanic or borrow a scanner from autoparts store and check for a code... neild 07-14-2005, 11:52 AM I've actually ordered a cable to be able to use with the free software from ross-tech to check it out. Hopefully that will arrive in a couple of days and I'll be able to check all these things myself now, without involving the dealer. The light actually went off after about 3 days anyway! turtlecrxsi 07-14-2005, 12:36 PM Cool. My wife's Passat had the CEL come on and Boschman on the forum said to go borrow a scanner. But I didn't and ended up getting raped by the dealership just for a new Mass Air Flow Sensor... and a $60 oil change in which (as described in another thread) the dealership air wrenched the oil pan bolt on... I guess so I'd have to go back... We're taking it tomorrow to a guy who used to work at the dealership but now runs his own shop, catering to people like us that just can't afford dealership rip offs. He's also the same guy who changed the timing belt at 90k so we know we can trust him... vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
