Does my 2005 GMC Sierra have a security device in the plastic part of the key or will a standard key blank work?

i don't think that you need a key from the factory. I have to 2000 Sierra and I had one made by Lowes. No problems. Good Luck.

05 has no security chip in the key only passlockII in the key cylinder
