I have a Dodge Ram 2500 and recently the dash cracked all the way across. I would like to know if anyone else has had a dash cracking problem with this model truck. Some friends of mine who are Dodge Ram owners have had the same problem. I would also like to know were to get a low cost replacement dash for my truck.

Thank you,

Hi, John M. here. I have a 97 RAM 1500 and the plastic dash was cracked in three places, from the windshield almost to the dashboard edge. I got a pre-formed dash cover from Genos Garage for $55.00 and change(61.xx with shipping). Installed in minutes with velcro- really looks great and completely covers the cracks.(Hint-follow the directions about letting the sunlight warm it before using the velcro and USE the alcohol pads to clean the old dash before sticking on the velcro). Good luck. John M www.genosgarage.com
I believe they also have new plastic dash covers.

Mine '98 1500 is pretty cracked up, but it was caused by some @sshole's crow bar as they were ripping out my radio.

I recently discovered 4 large cracks on my dash of my 2001 Ram 1500 as I was cleaning it as I do regularly. It's like it happened overnight. They weren't there the last time. The extended warranty I carry meant nothing to the dealer. I'm waiting for DaimlerChrysler to get back to me. It's sad that after only 4 years a dashboard would crack like an egg in more than one place with no impact or abuse. I have a feeling that this is an issue thar Dodge will not address. Good luck.

I have a 96 one ton and i have heard of a lot of dashes cracking. the best advice i can give is to get a carpet dash cover. the heat is your worst enemy. the cover will keep it out of direct sun light.

Same exact problem, 20011500 Ram Quad Cab. Still cracking, almost like someone flipped a switch. E-mailed Dodge this morning, told them to check out this forum. Real nice if you get in a accident and chunks of your dash go flying. How thick are the airbags???

Had a 01 Ram 1500 where the dash cracked across from pillar to pillar. Many calls to chrysler & extended warranty - no help (the truck was just under four years new when this happened). This is not a low cost or easy replacement, but you can get a new dash top from stealer for $300 - 500 depending on color. Also not easy replacement as many mounting screws are on underside of dash behind cowl - requires dash to be completely removed from vehicle.

I'm going to give you guys a heads up on this problem. My dad is a purchasing agent for resin in the automotive industry, and does purchasing and cost control for a company providing injection molded parts for the big three. That includes Dodge.

Daimler-Chrysler, especially on the Dodge Ram, uses the cheapest resin for their injection molded plastic parts (e.g. dashes) than any other automotive manufacturer. Cheapest by far.

Is there anything you can do about it? Nope, not a thing. Just wanted to give you guys a heads up.

And yes, I have a 98 Dodge Ram 4x4 with a very cracked dash.

I have a 99 Ram1500 that had a cracked up and falling apart dash. A buddy of mine had me call Coverlay Manf.and come to find out they actually make hard plastic vacumm formed dash covers and they also make door panels. I purchased one and in less than 15 min. I went from a cracked and falling apart dash to a cover that looks like the original dash. Oh yeah these are made of a heavier grade of plastic that allows for expansion and shrinking.

There name is Coverlay Manuf.

Had the same thing with my 02 2500. I just recovered it. Can't remember manf name, but the kit came with a dvd(trust me, watch it). Hoping it comes to me whilst typing. Be sure to use alcohol (TO CLEAN THE DASH!) so everything sticks right. Have a buddy help you. It uses a two stage to stick on, not velcro like a prev poster did. Looks brand new. You can only tell with the drivers door open, where it forms around the square ducting. F'k replacing the whole dash. Kit was less than a hundred. Can't remember who it was, but PM me and I'll look up my receipts or something.

O YEA my 01 quadcab started cracking 2 years after I bought it new. It just fell apart everywhere. Ended up buying a new one from Dodge and havent had any problems so far besided the instrument trim has a few cracks in it.

After reading the dash cracking problems before I got Cornbread Red, whose dash was uncracked, I bought a windshield inside shade.
I use it everyday day the sun is out and leave the windows cracked 2 to 3 inches to let heat out.
At home, the truck is under the carport.
Since 2004, the dash is fine.

In a related question, which is better, a $695 cheapo carport or a paint job?

Just put a cover on my dash this weekend. Probably an hour and a half between prep work and actual install. Looks great and truck is far quieter now (NICE!). I broke out most of the remaining dash out to the edges where you apply the silicone adhesive. Got the cover from an ebay seller for $140 total and it arrived in three days.
