Timing belt or chain? What's the recommendation for inspection or change out? Thanks for any help!

Are you asking whether to replace the belt with another belt or chain? Chains I believe overall are stronger and can support more power (that is if you were to add any power adders). But would cost more over a belt. :2cents:

Or you could be asking how long until you should change one... which I don't know the answer to... but I'm pretty sure its in the Impala manual.

I'd like to know if it's a belt or chain. I know it's in the manual, but the scenario involves my mom selling the Impala to my sister, and they are in CT while I'm in FL, and neither of them gives a hoot about maintenance other than changing the oil. If I ask them about it they won't think it's worth the time to check the manual. If it's a chain, then it won't matter as much as if it's a belt. If it's a belt that needs to be changed at 60K, then I'd like to let her know, since the vehicle has 60K.

Thanks for looking!

I'd be %95 sure its a belt. They are far cheaper than chains.

Thanks.

I thought I might get more responses. The 2002 Impala was the 9th most popular passenger car. Are there other more active Chevy forums? Or do most Chevy owners not go the DIY route?
