Gearstoyowheeler 07-04-2005, 07:18 PM Hello, I am a n00bie to the wheelin scene. I just bought a 96 tacoma 2.7L 4 banger 4wd. I was just wondering what gears came stock on the 96's? I tried to look on the drivers side post, but the sticker on there was all rubbed and faded off. It looks like this truck has been seriously rode hard, but the engine looks pretty sound. Also I was thinking about adding a 2.5" lift, Im not gonna be rockcrawling, more mud riding. Anyone have any good suspension lifts for a reasonable price? Ive seen them, but I really dont know what to look for in a lift kit. Any help will be appreciated. toyowheeler 07-04-2005, 07:24 PM Also another n00b question. What is a locker, and did 96's 5 spd manual come with them? Brian R. 07-04-2005, 11:05 PM Here's alot of differential information: http://home.4x4wire.com/erik/diffs/#8.25 http://www.brian894x4.com/Gearratiosanddiffs.html A locker is a differential that can lock the two rear wheels together and give the best possible traction off-road. They are usually electrically or pneumatically actuated. See the following links and references cited within them. http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/electric_locker/ http://www.4x4wire.com/toyota/tech/arb_locker/ toyowheeler 07-05-2005, 06:42 AM Thanks Brian R.....that was what I needed....Now I know I have 3.58 gears (if the previous owner didnt change them out). vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
