I have a 94 civic with a b16a which has been demolished by a wet 75 shot. I am ordering a b18b engine for it, I was hoping to order a Drag Gen III stage 1 turbo kit for it. If i do purchase the kit what other items will i need to make it work?? Im only going to run 7psi, nothing much. I am mainly concerned with what electronics i need. For Example: "Missing Link", or getting my ecu programmed( hondata ). And which would work better.
Thanks for the help!!

Ok, the Drag kit is garbage for the price.

1. The cast mani is crap
2. A boost sensitive FMU is a good way to need a third engine
3. The whole kit is overpriced

If you look on the internet or at shops that specialize in turbo fabrication, you'll find that you can make way more power for the same price on a DIY kit.

The Drag kit i looked at cost $3400 and gave you 260whp or so, but after talking to a guy at a local shop, i found out that i could make 300-350whp on my car all day for about $3500-4000 depending on the exact parts.

I was quoted $3600 for a kit that included a double backdoor IC a GT28RS turbo, all of the IC and charge pipes, an equal length top mount mani, dyno tuning, new RC injectors, oil lines and coolant hoses, BOV, Tial 38mm wastegate, Civic half length radiator, and all the other good stuff to get me boosted!!

If you look around, you'll find that if you do it youself, you can not only save money, but end up w/ more power.

I dont know that much about turbo kits but i would really prefer to stick with a bolt on kit, mainly because the closest shop that could fabricate a kit for my car is about 100 miles away.
This might sound like a stupid question but would there be a difference in the performance in a cast manifold if im only running 7psi?
What could be supplemented for the boost sensitive FMU?
I found a site that sells the kit for 2599 with free shipping, is that reasonable?

I appreciate the help :iceslolan

If you read that whole link that he gave you, you should have a damn good understanding of turbos. Not to say you'll know everything, but trust me, it helps.

BTW cast manis don't flow nearly as well as an equal length tubular mani.

Better flow from tubular=more power and quicker spool at the same flow rate and psi on the turbo

After reading the link, very helpful, I believe the best kit is the rev hard, I found a better version of it, with a tial waste gate and spearco intercooler for 2999, Im still concerned about the fmu. If i upgrade the injectors will it still pose a threat? And does it even work well enough to bother?

search for engine management systems with the injectors.

When you say engine management do you mean like a apexi controller or getting my ecu chipped? cause an AEM or similar engine management far exceed my budget. I only working with a 5000 dollar budget so after i order a motor, turbo kit, and new synchro for 1st and 2nd I dont have a whole lot to play with. approximately 700 dollars. I need one or the other? upgraded injectors or some type of fuel controller? also, since im using the missing link will i be able to use a boost gauge or even the fuel computer?
I would still like to know the answer to my last question

You will need a boost gauge. And you will also need some kind of engine management system, it's a must. Otherwise say good bye to your engine again. If you want power, you need to pay to play. You need injectors that will be sufficient to your hp goals (and not max out the duty cycle). You will also need to have something to control the fuel delivery and ignition timing (aka: engine management system).

for $5000, a turbo kit better than the POS drag, new tranny, with an engine management system can be built.

search buddy. if you think a bolt on kit will come with no problems, you are too far away consumed by rumors and advertisements.

what you really need to do before even buying anything, is do a big ass research from everything that you listed in your second post. with a $5000 spending limit, that doesnt leave much room for error. the answer to your last question is answered in the provided link above. actually, by reading the link above that provides the understanding of many basic systems that are involved in a turbo and its supporting harware, you will have a better understanding and ask more comlpex questions that will arrive from your new found knowledge.

unless you just dont care much about how everything works together, just go buy the drag kit, boost the stock level, and hope the fmu will do you good ;) basically, that is what a turbo kit is there for. it provides people who just want their little motors to have basic boost while providing the manufacturers with money. it satisfies the need of the manufactuerer and the consumer both at the sametime. what youi actually want to be, is, a better informed consumer.

Stop looking for kits, the ONLY way to go is to do it yourself....not only is it going to save you a bunch of money, you'll also end up w/ more power and more reliability if you do it correctly.
