View Full Version : the cost of sr20det engine swap the cost of sr20det engine swap ghostowl 06-30-2005, 12:01 AM I want to know whos done the swap and how did they go about doing it whether they did it them self or had a shop do it and a/c is a must in vegas so please include that if you can . J SPEC SilEighty 06-30-2005, 12:08 AM Do it yourself install (includes info on A/C): http://www.srswap.com/faq/index.asp Labor is going to vary. For example, I've seen shops here in VA charge as little as $650, and some up at $2000. $3500 is a complete rip off unless that includes the motor. ghostowl 06-30-2005, 12:20 AM well the shop that qoute 3500 me includes the engine, tranny the wiring and the labor . the guy said i drive the car in with the ka and 4 days later i drive out with the sr20 the only thing i forgot to ask was if the a/c would work? johnnyboy5 06-30-2005, 12:28 AM that sounds like a nice deal to me sidewayzS13 06-30-2005, 12:30 AM well lets see u may want to go ahead and put in a new clutch and flywheel. id order a front clip instead of just ordering the motorset. id upgrade the fuel pump. hmm im tired now and dont feel like typing anymore that is all i feel like contributing. oh and i have a sr so im talking w/ experience not just stating sidewayzS13 06-30-2005, 12:31 AM yea sounds like they ordering you a 1000 engine and charging you 2500 for install sidewayzS13 06-30-2005, 12:32 AM if i were you i would find a reputabvle company and order from them have it shipped to the shop and ask them how much for the install leestewart 06-30-2005, 12:39 AM Ya AC is nice my current 240 has no AC and it is like 95 degrees and humid as hell, but o well the car is an absolute joy to drive. Sorry I dont have much to contribute to your question my car was already swapped. I definatly agree with sidewaysS13 about the clutch, flywheel, and fuel pump. Might also check into some nismo motor and tranny mounts. sidewayzS13 06-30-2005, 12:40 AM electric fan aftermarket radiator ghostowl 06-30-2005, 12:54 AM sidewayss13 you said there chargeing me 1000 for the engine and 2500 for the labor . first the cheast i found a sr20det engine was for 1695.95 from jdm engines. with the tranny . the site that qoute me was www.garageworks.com check it out and tell what you think sidewayzS13 06-30-2005, 01:03 AM i was being somewhat sarcastic. but what i was trying to get across is i bet they are getting cheap engines from someplace and charging a shitload on labor. that is if they are just ordering you a engine and you dont know where its coming from. and the link u put up took me absolutly nowhere ghostowl 06-30-2005, 01:23 AM oh i see ok. try http://garageworksltd.com. hey what about the a/c does your car have it. shawn_carter69 06-30-2005, 03:04 AM yeah i think the best way would be to see how much they would charge you to do the swap if u had your own motor and tranny and wiring and go from there. sidewayzS13 06-30-2005, 07:35 AM no AC or power steering here. i live in florida where its 100% humidity and like 95* all the the time and i can stand the heat and dont mind not having ac but im just crazy i guess R.W.240 06-30-2005, 09:29 AM Reputable Importer Engine Set -3000$ Shipped Renta-Engine Hoist -40$ Time Spent on Internet looking for how to wire -$.02 or Getting a wiring service to wire everything -250$ You could do it for cheaper than they could and maintain A/C and P/S throw in stuff you want like Radiators, Engine Mounts, Downpipes, FMICs, Boost controllers, Oil Pans. Gauges, Clutches and various other things and it would be easy to top 5000$.... ...and if my credit card wasnt being such a little bitch I'd be well on the way past that. nissanfanatic 06-30-2005, 04:38 PM You should def do as much as you can with the engine out of the car. sidewayzS13 06-30-2005, 08:32 PM ^i agree ghostowl 06-30-2005, 11:17 PM i think that if i get the engine and the wiring that what ever shop i take it to well still charge me at least a 1000 . they probley pull some shit like this doesn';t work and that . grease monkeys will say and thing to get your money and if they like your engine even go as far tell that it doen't work . thats why i was asking if any one has done the swap in or around vegas . within a least a 1000 miles . i really want the car to work like a nissan should work and not be a pain in high maintance .if i want that kind of trouble i'd get a chevelle or something like that Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com!
