The GTA's first drag race

Test and Tune night at Old Dominion Speedway, this is the first time I've ever drag raced this car. So for anyone who's ever wondered what a bone stock '88 Trans Am 350 V8 could do, here's my time.

Note this is an 1/8th mile track:

R/T: 0.836
60': 2.182
330: 6.230
1/8: 9.631
MPH: 72.09

This was my first run of the night with almost a full tank of gas in the car. Somehow I managed to get an incredible launch off the line, hardly any spin if at all. I never could match this time the entire night, kept getting around 9.7 at best. Heads up racing barely lost to a 01 Cobra, neck and neck with I guess an '88 5.0, beat a '95 Mustang GT, Volkswagon Golf, and a stripped down honda civic hatchback. That Honda guy was so intent on trying to beat any V8 he came across it was too funny. He let the Cobra go ahead of him I guess because he thought he had a chance against me. I think he managed to get almost to my bumper by the end of the race but it was pretty ugly for the most part. The only reason I could come close to that Cobra was because he took too long getting off the line. I usually manage to get around .560 on the light consistently, that first run was my slowest reaction of the night.

Well that's pretty good numbers. That would put ya in the 14s probably in the 1/4.

Also my S-10 is now down to a 10.2 with the new gears. Pretty good for a heavy ass show truck. Stock did a 10.67, hypertech programming and headers did a 10.4, now finally made that lowest pass a few weeks ago.

"I think he managed to get almost to my bumper by the end of the race" but it was pretty ugly for the most part.

I'm reading that as the Civic didn't get out of the hole too good and started gathering you up at the traps, if that is indeed the case then it's a good thing that wasn't a 1/4 mile track, he might of beat you.

Good effort though for a first time at the track with the bird! .56's first time out is a decent R/T, if you can get some more practice at the R/T's and get them down in the .50 - .51 range and the car is consistant with the ET's you could probably do pretty well in the Brackets with it, you don't need to be fast, you just need to be consistant.

Yeah if he wasn't so busy gawking over the car next to him and payed attention to what he was doing he probably could of won. Watched the guy race the Cobra twice and every time he took off the line he'd be looking over at the other car not concentrating on what he was doing. That run against me was probably his best, I think like a 9.7 or .8. The rest of the time he kept getting in the 10 second range.

Heard that. I'm wanting to run the 1/8th shortly. I'm shooting for 6.70s.

Forgot to mention there was a SRT-10 Ram there. The one with the Viper engine. I mean I know the truck is like 2 tons but with 500 horsepower and torque I didn't think he did very well. His best time there was a 9.4. Is that supposed to be average for those trucks? I've seen Lightning's do much better then that.

I'd say not. Those things are capable of 13s I reckon, and 9.40 won't get ya 13s I wouldn't think.

I saw the quad cab version of the Viper SRT RAM run the other night..... 14.9 - 15.1! thought it would be quicker.....
