I seem to have a whinning noise coming from the rear end of my ram 1500. It starts around 40mph and only when accelerating. It stops as soon as I take my foot off the gas. I don't feel any loss of power or hesitation. any suggestions?

What year and how many miles? My '04 has a slight rear end whine at about 50mph, and my brother's '99 had a similar whine above 60. Probably normal unless it's getting louder.

its not normal. if your diff fluid is ok and full, your pinion bearing is humming. i just had mine replaced about 5k miles ago. if you can deal with the whine, it will prob last a long time. if you tow, get it fixed

Thanks. It was the bearing. I tow frequently, probably what killed it. Luckily I had 4,000 miles left under warranty. It's a 2002 1500 w/5.9.

i replace my rear diff fluid every 5-10k now. its easy to do, just drop your diff cover, clean off the diff housing and cover, and permatex the cover back on.

i heard 75/90 full synthetic, and then i heard 85/140(?) w/ additive for rear end. which one is right cuz i guess the rearends are picky w/ fluid
