What exactly does Nismo do to turn an RB26DETT into an RBX-GT2? All I know about it is that the GT2 has more displacement (2.8l), produces 394 horsepower, and revs out to 10,000 RPM. I read somewhere that Trust bought a 400R and tuned it to 1100 hp. Would it be better to buy an RBX-GT2 from Nismo and tune it, or just start from scratch with a factory RB26?

Good question, I don't know for sure but I'll try and find out for ya :)

Bored and Stroked of course, so that means new crank, pistons and possibly head.

there's lots of ways to get 1000hp figures i doesn't necessarily mean you need the 400R either

Most japanese tuning companies start from the GTR and work up and Veilside certainly have the best reputation for building some of the fastest or the Fastest Street Skylines. Top Secret makes good ones too

1000HP isn't the issue at hand, its what exactialy makes the RBX-GT2 different from the RBX-GT2.

Sure there are plenty of ways to get 1000HP, some cheaper then others, some more stable then others, some longer lasting then others, some envolving more displacement, some sticking with 2.6l.

Ok, some info on how the RBx-GT2 differs from the RB26DETT. A larger stroke of 77.7mm and bore of 87mm make for a bigger displacement of 2771cc. Additionally, special pistons and con-rods, a new crankshaft and a strengthened engine-block, in connection with a NISMO intercooler are responsible for the increase in power and also boost torque to a maximum of 478Nm (346 lb-ft) at 4400rpm. Because of the power increase the 400R also uses a nismo twin plate.

I would say that unless you want to make massive horsepower(1200+) just go with the RB26DETT and work with it. True the RBX has a strengthened block, but unless you are wanting to push above 600 or so you probly won't need it. Now the RBX would be the stronger base engine to start working with, but you have to ask yourself if you really need to spend the extra money on it :D
