I have a 1992 2wd s10 with a 2.5 and t5 tranny. My neighbor has a 1987 2wd s10 with a 2.5 and manual 4 speed. Here is the problem. i have a completly trashed tranny and he has a trashed motor. I want to buy wis truck and swap in his tranny to my truck.

I talked to a couple of salvage yards and they said no go on the swap. They said that i would have to use a tranny from 89 and up. I dont understand why and none of them could tell me why either. It is the same block and from what i heard the only diff is the heads. So how would that stop me from swapping in his tranny.

Guys if i dont get help on this issue i have to scrap my baby. So please help me out as best you can. thanks in advance.

I wouldn't scrap the idea yet. It could just be that they are trying to force you to buy a transmission from them or sell them a good truck.

But then again they might be partly right. It might not be a straight bolt in. It will still work out, it's just more work.

Your best bet is to just crawl under both trucks, with a tape measure, notebook, and if possible a digital camara, and compair them as much as possible.
Don't scrap the parts truck until you have the job done. You might need some extra parts from it.
I would put in a new 87 clutch if there is a difference

S10 TRUCK 1982 RWD TH200C
S10 TRUCK 83-91 RWD TH700R4/4L60
S10 TRUCK 92 & UP RWD 4L60E
