trans fluid leaking in clutchracing_4_life 06-22-2005, 03:44 AM hey i have a 1997 honda civic dx and when i got it,my friend told me that the trans fluid is leaking in the clutch.plat or something like that.so i was wondering if any 1 new how much it would cost to get hat fixed.or is there a way to fix it temp for now. thanks let me know hondakevin21 06-25-2005, 12:07 AM It's better not to wonder about the cost unless your wondering how much it's going to be for a new transaxle after a while and do not do a quick fix, have it fixed right the first time. racing_4_life 06-25-2005, 01:50 PM yeh all my friend said no quick fix also.so i will just get a new trans.so now i need to find a good price. thanks for the help superbluecivicsi 06-25-2005, 08:58 PM oil leaking in the clutch disc? pressure plate? flywheel? sure its not the rear oil seal? thats where most oil leaks occur in the tranny area. are you losing motor oil or transmission oil? that should be the easiest way to distinguish where the leak is coming from. if its the rear oil seal, just drop out the tranny and do it yourself. if its the tranny itself, there may be a crack in the inner housing somewhere. if your friend knew that the tranny housing is leaking oil internally, why did he put the tranny back on in the first place, instead of getting it welded or replaced instead either way you go, the tranny is going to have to come off. do it yourself. drop the tranny yourself. rear oil seal is easy to replace. getting the tranny welded or welded with jb weld is also easy. $70 an hour for labor is what its going to come down to. try the little tranny shops if you dont want to attack it yourself. places like aamco will charge you a flat $700 just for taking the tranny off and checking it out. thats just for dropping the tranny. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
