My truck has had regular service , is at 86000 miles and has always been fed
10-30 Penzoil. Am buying a C5 in a few months, (my first), and they all use
Mobile 1 synthetic. Question; would it hurt my Silverado to switch from Penzoil
to Mobile 1 synthetic? I have had no problems with my truck and have had it
for 5.5 years, but was just wondering if switching to mobile 1 syn. would
help my engine last another 86000 miles or,?????
Thanks for your help,
Robert

guys in here will tell you all kinds of advice. From what I hear synthetic is better but if you have an older engine the switch will hasten oil leaks and seepage. also the first time you run synthetic through I hear you are supposed to change it after like 2000 miles because synthetic oil is more detergent than regular oil and it will dissolve all the crud out of your engine and turn black quick (the first time, that is)

the book said synthetic is better I have an old 91 caprice and I run pensoil 10w40 or 20 I forgot anyway it seems to be well but when I get my truck I think I plan on running synthetic but if your truck came with regular oil how did you go about making the switch??? the book said the first time you run it you change it soon because of all the stuff in your engine true????

It does not hurt to go a shorter cycle on the first synthetic fill, it has better detergents and less not so desireable ingrediants that will do a better job of scrubbing and cleaning. Just seeing a darker color on your dipstick is not a true indication of used/bad oil. Your fingers can not tell what metals are harmful and what size grit is in the oil, contrary to your neighbors who think they can see and feel the problem. Get with an Amsoil rep and see about sending in a sample after a shorter mileage than normal. After that first you will be able to go longer mileage and use the information from sending in samples to help you decide when to change the oil. 3,000 is a money machine, don't get caught up in that monster.....

Watch which "Synthetic" you get. As you read, some oils start with not so synthetic blends and yet forget to tell you the whole truth by calling themselves synthetic. Mobil and Amsoil, you pay for what you get.

Read the oil bible, they don't always tell you the truth....
