im getting ready to buy a 90 f-150, and i have performance in mind, im curious should i mod the straight 6, or just drop a 5.0 in there or bigger?, im thinking more of a street truck, not an all out drag truck, its a 5 speed, any ideas? :smokin:

Good torque and legendary endurance...what's wrong with the inline six? If you want to scoot, though a 5.0 or 5.8 would be better...it's always a shame to see a good I-6 go to waste, though.

yeah im not sure tho, i mean i want scoot, so yeah a V8 dropped in it would be nice, cuz im really performance minded, but i admire the straight 6 in it, 265 lb ft of torque, and those things are indestructible lol but nothing is wrong with the 6, im just wondering if i should mod the 6 or just drop an 8 in there......*edit*, btw, im curious, since the truck has no tach, whats the redline on the inline 6, i mean for shifting points.

Um redline on a "300-6", around 4200 LoL! I think they do all their work under 3500 RPM or something (not really, but they ARE Tq monsters).

The problem with modding this at all is that you have what is called a "speed density" based EFI system. Basically to mod the engine at all, you are MUCH cheaper to toss the EFI and install a carb. BTW, this applies to ALL Ford products of this model year, and trucks until about 1997.

so will a...lets say 5.0 302 V8 mount right in where the I-6 is, i mean will it fit the motor mounts and bolt right up to the 5 speed it has in it?
