It will make a really loud knocking noise about by the intake manifold on my 95 SOHC neon. It will get faster and louder as I Rev up. As I drive and rev higher, (I shift at 3,000 usually) when I push clutch in to shift it knocks faster for a second and dosnt go with the rev. Then clutch out new gear and it goes with knocking agian. There are a few times it wont knock for a second then does it agian any help would be great. I think rod and pistion are gonner and engine is junk please tell me different. Thanks for any help.

Nick.

Not sure if this will help but i had a problem much like yours not long ago. In my case the problem was A broken spring on the Exhaust header, and when the engine would tilt one way or another it would make a loud taping noise. It was a 7$ repair. Also i found that when you go to get your kit make sure you pick up a few washers to get it as thight as posable. It seems that the kit they offer to replace these springs and bolts are a 1/2 longer not sure if they didn't just give me the wroung kit.

Alos im taking my engine apart. Got intake manifold off and there was oil in there. Oil in the pcv hoses. Enough to were i could tip the intake manifold and it willl drip out. Got about 6ml of oil in there.

im leaning towards your throw out bearing on you clutch... its shot.
or you could have a bent valve or possibly piston slap

all three of those are in the visincinity of the manifold
on a cold morning is the noise really bad the and calms down alittle bit.

if you do a compression check it will tell you for piston slap or bent rods and you can eliminate those possibilities and narrow it down to t/o bearing which is part of your clutch.

I have the intake manifold off and looked in it the front intake valves look fine. I am about to take the exhuast manifold off real fast and maybe the head to check things out. Its not cold here anymore but its been the same it just stays making the noise but sometimes it will stop for like two seconds then go back to it.

its most likly the throw out bearing you wont be able to tell if your valves are bent without taking each one out and checking them if a valve was bent enough to accutally notice it would have broke off already

Checked oil its fine no metel. Checked antifreeze and radiator no oil or metal. Rocker arms looked fine going to drain oil next and fire it up with valve cover off to see if springs are messed up or rocker arms are messed up. Then Ill go from there that is the update thus far. Next if I find nothing there its a compression test.
