90 Accord LX fuel pump and idling error

Ok...I have a 1990 Honda Accord LX 4dr with 208,000mi on it, and its a 5 spd..........my fuel pump obviously doesnt work, but I installed one i got off of a running honda. It does the same thing, but I hotwired it straight to the battery and i actually saw fuel being pumped from the line...(I took off the line from the new filter for the heck of it, dont ask). Is this the main relay or something to do with the actual pump itself?
And when I first start it up, the RPMs fluctuate while idling, but it will settle when it gets warm. It also fluctuates when i reach a higher RPM right before i switch gears along with some grinding in my tranny i assume.....is this somethig I need to adjust or replace?
