the one in the picture looks like a d16y7 not a d15b. d15b is first of all vtec. d16y7 is obd-II and d15b is obd-I so it is illegal to swap in that engine in ur car(u need an obd-II engine). the intake on the engine in the link matches the one from the d16y7 not the d15b intake manifold.d15b is better engine tough, 130hp over w/e the y7 has. does it say d15b on the block bc if it does then im puzzled.

But it does have the plugs on the front side of the engine (which is what vtec engines have). Check the engine code and the year on the head.
Here's a pic of where the year should be located on the head: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v473/CivicSpoon/engineyear.jpg

Yup, all the vtecs have the plugs on the front and all the non-vtecs have them in the back. This is just from what I've seen, so maybe there are some that are different :dunno: But I noticed the solenoid thing too.

That is the correct engine. D15B SOHC non VTEC OBD2. It is from the EK2

Non VTEC have the plugs in the front on 96-00. Look at a D16Y7 and a D16Y8, the same.

That is the engine. But if you want any speed upgrade get the JDM VTEC-3 D15B, and make sure you get a ECU with it, because no USDM Si, or EX ECU will open the 4th exhaust valve in the second stage of VTEC, and the HX ECU won't enagage the 3rd stage of VTEC, the normal hi-cam version.

Check my track record on these kinds of topics, if you don't believe me.

That's messed up. I've honestly never seen a d16y7 or y8 up close. But all the '92-'95's I've seen were the way I described earlier. Wonder why Honda changed it...

External differences in Y7 and Y8 are

Intake manifold on Y7 has throttle body facing down, like the D15B2 DPI, while the Y8 has the "normal" plenum/TB setup.

No VTEC soleniod, of course.

Other than that they have the same vlavecovers, with the big HONDA lettering, and bottom plugs.
