Tough decision, need lots of help here on purchaseShaguar47 06-17-2005, 05:56 PM Thank god i got a great job just recently. Now I can afford a newer civic and the time is soon. I'm looking at two civic's actually both being 99 or 00 models. The only difference is one being an ex and the other being an si. Both are great, meaning they have all the power features and comforts, but the engines are the biggie here. First off, I drive a 70hp d15b1 engine in my 90 civic and it is slow as hell. So now I want something that has power and good power. But having been used to getting a near 40 mpg is going to be hard to stop doing. I need help. Here is a list of things I want and want to do to it in the future. Please vote on which model type you think would suit me best. I'm just stumped at the choice and don't know what. Please help me out! - I want power. - I want to be atleast able to beat my friends proteges and probes. - I want good mpg though (I'm used to getting 40 mpg) - I want all the power options and comforts - I want to hear and feel vtec - I want to design a clean civic with a complete factory lip kit on it and spoiler. - I want my friends to be sorta jealous of it. - I want realiability meaning if I push it hard occasionally, It won't break - My cash limit is 10k, but if in good condition and low miles, will spend more. - I will baby it completly and not rice it out - Premium fuel is alright but not something I kinda want, but will deal with it if I have too. - I want a car that will get my moneys worth. - Either a 1999 or 2000 model of both will only do. Alright, please vote and help me out here. It will give me more of an idea of what I want since most of you guys have had experience with these cars and their engines. I can't say I've experienced honda horsepower or comfort but now I want too! Ace$nyper 06-17-2005, 06:24 PM - I want power. <-- wrong cars then - I want to be atleast able to beat my friends proteges and probes. <-- depending on trims see above or maybe just some pumas will do - I want good mpg though (I'm used to getting 40 mpg) <-- ex better milage - I want all the power options and comforts <-- both - I want to hear and feel vtec <-- LMFAO sorry but you dont know vtec well do you? - I want to design a clean civic with a complete factory lip kit on it and spoiler. both - I want my friends to be sorta jealous of it. <-- hope your friends all drive there folks cars - I want realiability meaning if I push it hard occasionally, It won't break <- both - My cash limit is 10k, but if in good condition and low miles, will spend more. <-- both SI is alot more - I will baby it completly and not rice it out <- doesn't matter any car can be nice or rice - Premium fuel is alright but not something I kinda want, but will deal with it if I have too. <-- ex then - I want a car that will get my moneys worth. <-- neither - Either a 1999 or 2000 model of both will only do. <-- any good reason for this? slow_99integra 06-19-2005, 05:18 PM too many variables to deal with when buying a car....when you find the one you want you will know. that to me is too much to look for and by doing this you will always wonder what will happen yif you bought the other car. BrodyP 06-19-2005, 05:22 PM SI... next question iVteC_PoWeR 06-20-2005, 10:49 AM Si would be better, but it would cost more. And for vtec a dohc will feel much more power than a sohc. nvrenough 06-20-2005, 09:47 PM I just got a 1999 Civic EX. I like it. Great gas mileage, fun to drive, and tons of mods. Si is decent better engine, but don't count out the SOHC. exman98 06-20-2005, 09:54 PM would look at maybe geting an 04 or 05 EX in your case. i personealy think a 98 ex lookes better than the 99-00 (with identical preformance). this may save you $ all civics hold thier value open you choices more would you consider a swap? blkciv98EXwithopes 06-22-2005, 01:21 AM 98 EX, Si is like going brand name, plus you could put the other part of the 10k into performance. I got my 98 ex civic for 7k with 65k miles on it. _93civchatch_ 06-24-2005, 09:59 AM [QUOTE=exman98]i personealy think a 98 ex lookes better than the 99-00 QUOTE] yeah, they pretty much look the same... just minor things are different at least in the coupe... i odnt know abuot hatch and an SI is gonna run you sooo much more than an EX, why not just but like a 97 or a 98 ex if your gonna go 99 or 2000 and put on mods on it for some extra ponys blkciv98EXwithopes 06-25-2005, 01:01 AM http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/251378garage_floor_3_right_side-med.jpgOH! http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/251378garage_floor_3-med.jpgMY! 98 EX... i still have work, but didnt spend 10k yet. superbluecivicsi 06-25-2005, 01:52 AM http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/251378garage_floor_3_right_side-med.jpgOH! http://files.automotiveforums.com/gallery/watermark.php?file=/500/251378garage_floor_3-med.jpgMY! 98 EX... i still have work, but didnt spend 10k yet. not feeling the hood and bumper. and an SI is gonna run you sooo much more than an EX, why not just but like a 97 or a 98 ex if your gonna go 99 or 2000 and put on mods on it for some extra ponys the US 99-00 trims run pretty at the same price if you look hard enough. drive an ex then an si. you wont ever look back at the ex. gas mileage on the Si.....................i never complained with the two Si's i had. b16 gas mileage is great. jonnysos11 06-25-2005, 04:20 AM nice black civic....alrigh it sounds like your trying to impress your friends rather than buying somthing you like.. consider how much work and money your willing to put into the car and if your going for performance or gas milage because realisticly you cant have both.personally i would buy the si because you'll have a vtec and if you buy the sohc youll have to do alot of engine mods to beat you friends(considering they have work done to their cars)but choose what YOU want to drive don't let litte things sway your decision exman98 06-25-2005, 11:31 AM d16y8 SOHC VTEC in 6th gen ex's peppy not fast blkciv98EXwithopes 06-25-2005, 09:43 PM all im saying is that for the price you could spend on a si civic, the ex could be modified quite nicely. i was going to go for a "clean look" but in the real world no one really gives a * about a lip kit. turboEKhatch 06-25-2005, 10:07 PM I paid 3900 for my car with an absolutely pristine body and interior, but the motor smoked because the last owner put nitrous on it and was an idiot with it. I never tallied it up, but with an LS swap and a turbo kit using a drag manifold and a T3/TO4E 57-trim I'm pretty sure it was under 10K. Who gives a crap about hearing VTEC when you have the whistle of a turbo and 300+ HP? superbluecivicsi 06-26-2005, 01:12 PM when the 99 civics first came out, the price differences between the two were $1000-$2000 of a difference brand new. the si will always have better everything from suspension to the b16. why did i buy the si twice?..........................because why not spend the extra $1000-$2000 for a better swap, better suspension, body, interior, and P195/55 VR15 Michelin XGT4 on some nice si alloys? its mpg still rivals other civics with 26 on the streets and 31 on the highway. Schister66 06-29-2005, 07:40 AM D16Y8+turbo=better than Si i would still buy an Si or an Integra superbluecivicsi 06-30-2005, 03:14 AM boost vs non boost is like comparing an elephant to a mouse. try boosted b16 vs boosted d16 b16 vs d16 vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
