Wood dash kits & suspension questions

I'm a new member here and I've had a 95 Riv for 6 years and still love it. I have a couple questions for you experts out there.

1. I've looked at some of the wood and faux wood dash kits and wondered if anybody has ever applied one of these. If so, do you have any recommendations for vendors or kits? Wood or carbon fiber? Are they easy to install (I'm pretty handy at DIY) or is it best to stay away from these modifications? One of my concerns is with the number of pieces in some of these kits (19+) and how well they adhere and if it appears professional like it was factory installed or does it have a tacky appearance?

2. I need to replace my struts and air shocks and was told by a Buick dealer (who I only called to get an opinion - won't go to dealers for repair) that only genuine GM parts will give you a great ride. Now, being the skeptical consumer that I am, especially when it comes to advice from dealers, I'm thinking that's crap as he quoted me $945 for replacement & alignment whereas other quotes are running about $600-$650 for after market parts. I've replaced struts in my other cars with Monroe or similar and can't say I've noticed any difference in the ride. Any help or opinions you can lend will be appreciated.

Thanks!
