My 91' Civic (auto, 1.5l) has an overheating problem. The radiator is cracked so I can't even do a pressure check until I replace it. I am attempting this myself on Sunday and would greatly appreciate any tips/advice. I have the manual and am relatively confident in my ability but.... :) I would also like to know if there is anything else I should replace while I have the radiator out (thermo switch, thermostat etc..) I am kind of going blind here since I don't know if only the radiator is the problem. The fan is working now-but I had to reroute the power source (only 1 fan has been operable for over a year) but I think the thermo switch is dead as I checked it w/ jump wires and it did not get fan to run. Also-for about a month previous to the overheating I kept hearing a shorting out sound-it stopped the minute the car began overheating, making me think it could be a dead wire somewhere. There is no sign of head gasket trouble. It is probably obvious by the post that I am far from an expert on my car-but I love her and want to learn. Any insight would be priceless-thank you.

The fan on the drivers side should only come on when you run your A/C.
