whats the best intake for a 1997 civic dxracing_4_life 06-14-2005, 07:25 PM whats up, i have seen 3 different styles of intakes.short ram, mass flow, and cold air intake.and i was wondering what was the best kind .for power.incase ppl dont know what a mass flow intake is .its like a short ram but like 4 times the thickness.so i was wondering what is the best kind for power.and sound, and how much HP do the intakes really add.if any thanks BrodyP 06-14-2005, 07:39 PM best advise (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/search.php?) iVteC_PoWeR 06-14-2005, 07:48 PM Cold Air Intake!!! And IMO mass flow are gay they look so ugly and don't put that many hp on the ground. exman98 06-15-2005, 01:23 AM i have a SRI on my 98 ex and it sounds great. people always ask me what the hell i have under the hood to make it sound so good(they think i have actauly done engine work,LOL). you can get an SRI for under $70 and it only takes 10 min to put on. i thinkl it helped me at the low end (very little). iVteC_PoWeR 06-15-2005, 03:48 PM Yea SRI is the best sounding one and the easiest to install. CAI will only get you slightly more hp and it's not very good to drive with one on a rainy day. My friend's Ex had one and you couldn't tell any difference in power. It was just way louder and attracted more cops/ricers. _93civchatch_ 06-24-2005, 10:01 AM I wouldn't get any. My friend's Ex had one and you couldn't tell any difference in power. It was just way louder and attracted more cops/ricers. maybe your friend installed it wrong... lol j/k iVteC_PoWeR 06-24-2005, 02:17 PM I wouldn't get any. My friend's Ex had one and you couldn't tell any difference in power. It was just way louder and attracted more cops/ricers. My friend has a EX too and he has a SRI and I can feel the difference at higher RPM. Rampart Crawler 06-26-2005, 08:05 PM My friend has a EX too and he has a SRI and I can feel the difference at higher RPM. Difference in sound. It was installed right. It nets no more than 1 or two whp. Similar intakes on V8s don't even give that much horsepower. Sorry, it's just not worth spending $60+ for no difference in performance. My friend getting that intake just made him more disappointed. It made a louder noise, and made him feel like he was going faster, but it was still a 16+ second car. And this is on a sohc vtec, not just a sohc non vtec. He still loses to stock s10s, n/a eclipse's, and ugly old fwd v6 gm sedans. I suggest engine swap, or keep it stock. _93civchatch_ 06-29-2005, 10:46 AM Difference in sound. It was installed right. It nets no more than 1 or two whp. They weigh about 3000lbs, even. Yes, they have short gears, but your ignorance shows when you say they shift into 4th at 50. Their gearing isn't that short. Short gearing helps acceleration, btw. Tall gearing helps gas mileage. Guessing form your sn, you have a 93 hatch. Unless you have a swap or some work, you can't take one. Wanna bet? If you live in southern N/E, my cousin happens to have one that he tows with, and we could set up a fun little race so we can makes some money off you. He hasn't lost to an ex, yet. Just because your civic is lower to the ground and louder doesn't mean it's fast. When you say they have good bottom end, but they are slow up top, you are probably racing them, they beat you and back off, and you do a flyby. rushb18 07-04-2005, 05:34 PM I knwo this thread is kinda liek mth old but i have to say s10's arent shit...I have a v-6 long bed 96 vortec and it tops out a 96 mph and cuts off and the only thing it does good is burnouts.... Ur the one with ignorance saying a ex can get beat by a heavy as eclipse i used to have one of those to a 96 gs with 80k miles and my delsol stock would spank its ass...the only thing decent on eclipse is there top end... But yea get a SRI for it...Also you dont have to spend 60 bucks on one there like 30 shipped for a ebay cheapie work somewhat just as good.. CivicLeader 07-29-2005, 08:32 AM AEM CAI... I like it and def. notice horse power increase... Hope this helps... CL lkailburn 07-29-2005, 02:11 PM Ur the one with ignorance saying a ex can get beat by a heavy as eclipse i used to have one of those to a 96 gs with 80k miles and my delsol stock would spank its ass...the only thing decent on eclipse is there top end... uhh... :headshake ever try racing the awd turbo eclipse?? lol not like im a mitsu guy, im a honda owner but those awd turbo eclipses(gsx i think is the trim) are nothin to joke about. alacard 07-29-2005, 03:57 PM i installed a cheap cai from ebay, and an apexi n1 muffler...(havent put bigger piping from the cat-back yet) and i dont notice ANY difference..except for sound. its ridiculous how much people can spend on intake and exhaust. unless you have a monster of an engine, and for some reason you're still running stock exhaust and intake...THEN you will notice a difference. blk97civic4dlx 08-03-2005, 11:31 PM those air intakes definetly dont do much of anything.. dont even bother vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
