Like the title says.....how much power is too much???? Is there such a thing?? I've been looking at turboing my GSR and as i look more and more into it, i become greedy or powerhungry. The only problem is that i want the power and i want reliability, but at the same time i don't want to spend a lot of money.

The basic question behind all of this is how much power would you be happy with?? I think that 280whp sounds like a number i can live with. I've been wondering this for a while and i thought i'd post it on here.....i can't be the only one thinking about this.

300whp sounds good to me, but I hear once you get the turbo bug, basically, you're screwed money wise, haha. As with anything else, once you get your 280whp, you'll want 300, then 350, then 400, and so on. But then of course you get into problems with steetability and reliability with the higher numbers, but more importantly cost. You'll be happy when you reach your goal I suppose, that is, until you set another one.

That's the problem i was having....as soon as i get 280whp, i'll want more and more and more.....where do i stop?? I am looking at different kits and thinking of DIY, but the price of the kits keeps going up and up and up.

Since i'm getting the kit i might as well upgrade to a ball bearing turbo and a tubular mani and on and on.

Thats the problem i'm having.......i don't know where to stop.

Best advice I can give you is to set a price limit. Ask yourself how much you're really willing to spend. Keep in mind you bills (car insurance, phone bill, gas, rent, entertainment expenses; what ever applies). My friend has the same problem you do. Every time he gets something new, he wants more. He's maxed out his credit card a few times and ends up worrying about his bills and being able to buy FOOD. Just always make sure you have a little extra money saved up to fall back on for problems that arise. Just boost to 280; save up $ and when you've got enough, buy upgrades and boost more (of course save enough for a good engine management system and a pro tune).

So I say too much is when you've spent way too much $ and when you realize you're going to fast (maybe too fast for the street). And remember, not matter how fast you there will always be someone who is faster than you.

As soon as my T3/T67 HO gets here I'm hoping to make atleast 425 WHP on pump gas without much trouble, hopefully more.

Exospeed 84mm GSR 9:1 comp
RLZ head, VictorX IM, ITR cams
tubular mani, etc, etc

It's all about the right parts. I think 400-450 WHP is a good level for the street in a hatch.

400whp on the street is about the limit traction wise and also the limits of pump gas so it all works out

i am really thinking that 280whp is about as high as i want to go.....otherwise the power is unuseable w/o slicks and other things that would make the car very bad as a daily driver.

I think 500 whp has a nice ring to it... lol, but yeah, probably way unpractical. 280-300 whp would be imaculate. thats a good goal to start with i would say.

400-500 rwhp would be great. Once you get up thier (700+) your pretty much a dyno queen. And your going to have very limited streetability

well i think even 400-500whp on my GS-R would be way to much to drive daily. Not only that, but i would have huge turbo lag. If i was to shoot for 300bhp......~280whp......i would have a good street car and track car.

Yeah that would be great, but Honda and Acuras (for the most part) are FWD, not RWD.

He's got 4000 RPM's worth of powerband, that's a GT35R on a stock bore GSR, and on pump gas to boot.

400-ish is about the max you can hook up in a lighter car like a gutted EG, but I'm running a newer hatch with full interior, so I want more.

I would love to put down numbers like that but i have 3 problems.

1. I don't want to build the engine!

2. This car is a daily driver and has less than 50,000 on it and i want it to last for a while. I don't want to wreck a
new(er) engine.

3. I'm on a bit of a budget.
