i have a 94 grand cherokee and the security system goes off continuously. and now it even does after i disable it and go to start engine and kicks in again and wont let me start engine. it is really becoming a pain. dont really want to fix the system, just want to know if there is a way that i can bypass the security system to where i wont have to worry about it anymore. any ideas????

The factory system is nuts, I would take it to a Best Buy and have a new system put in, they will bypass the factory system so the new one will work.

Please let me know if you fiigure it out, I would love to know.

i looked into the fuses for the system. the 94 model has about four different fuses for the security module. i tried pulling mutliple ones but most of them deal with other systems as well so it screwed up alot of other things. i decided to just pull the one that says security alarm system. doesnt have any other system for that fuse. didnt think it was going to work because there are so many other fuses, but for last two days hasnt gone off. so hopefully it stays that way. before the only way i could bypass it was to not use the auto locks to lock the doors. that would turn system on. i had to manually lock doors with key. that worked for about a year then last week that went to crap as well...... working for now. will keep posted on futher results

it's probably a hood switch or a door switch if you wanted to keep it working.

I don't think Jeep used "hood open" switchs, I have only seen that in the aftermarket. I could be wrong about the newer ones, but my 02, 98 and 93 does not have them however the 93 is the only one that did not come with a factory alarm.

well pulling the circuit breaker didnt work. reinstalled it. found out that my battery was going bad. when i tried to start it, it would kill the battery for split second and system would go off. got to where it would only start every ten tries. everytime had to shut down alarm. replaced the battery and jeep starts perfectly and system is working good. disconnected hood switch just in case. thanks for the help. if alarm goes off again will let yall know.

So your saying that from the Jeep factory you have a pin for the hood?
Are you 100% sure that it's not an aftermarket install?

For the other guy..

As for the alarm your trying to disarm, why did you key not disarm the system?

I have a 1998 JGC I bought yesterday 06/22. The alarm goes off at random (factory horn) I read through as many threads as I could find. Was going to try disabling hood alarm as suggested by another member, but apparently I don't have that. I did pull horn fuse for the interim, but just want to disable the alarm completley. Can someone direct me specifically to a wire or something to disconnect it?

the hood switch on my 94 is on the left side of the chassis about a foot from the front. is just a small cylinder switch with one wire going to it. you can easily miss it if you dont know where to look.

Your 94, it's a factory alarm? If it is it's the first I have ever known with a hood switch. Not to say they did.

If anything I would got get it looked at and pay the money to A: get iit fixed with new clickers B:Get it turned off.

If you mess up and that thing disables your starter you might be screwed.

Good luck!

Hey,

Thanks for the response, but mine is a '98. the battery is all but dead now. I don't know if getting a new battery will help the alarm situation... that may be the cause of my battery problem. It is factory installed, and yes I may have to resort to taking it to the dealer$$

I have a 94 JGC and had the exact same problem. Not to say this is THE fix but, my mechanic replaced the leads(cables) to the battery and the problem completely went away. The alarm hasn't gone off my itself since then. Not sure what was wrong with them but I live in the Caribbean so we blame everything on salt air. It's a cheap and easy fix. I'd recommend giving it a try.

Wow, that sounds like it would work! I'll definitely give this a try!
Easy and cheap? Hope it's not to be good to be true, I'll let you know if it works. It sounds like it could help a lot of people. Thanks for the reply!

I have a 98 JGC 5.9 that came with everything and I do not have this pin you talking about, I really think this is an aftermarket item put on!

93-96 alarm is integral to vehicle. pain to disable. hood, doors, ign switch all have sensors. If battery in your remote entry is dead, you can disarm through either front door or tailgate lock(s) as long as 1 of these switches work, you can disarm. Prob is they wear out. only @$25 but pain to get to. to disable, pull door panel, look for pink/white wire attaching to bottom of inside door lock mechanism, short to permanently disarm. since hardest part of work done, i would just replace switch.
Let me know in forum if doesn't work.

You know after reading the post here I went out and looked for the "hood pin" and could not find it, if anybody knows the location of the hood pin please let me know. I have not been able to find one on my 5.9 98.

passenger side underneath drip rail by the battery. Just small 2 pole sw, bolted to drip rail.

I don't think it is aftermarket, but I'll tell you that I haven't been able to locate one on my 97 either. I'm installing an aftermarket 2-way pager remote start/alarm system on mine at the moment. Let's just say this, unless you do it for a living.....leave it up to the pros! I'm only about 1/3 the way done and I've already used up 4 hours. I need to get some relays and more connectors to finish. I'm looking at probably 8 more hours at least. I work on multi-million dollar aircraft and that's way easier for me.

i had the same problem tried all the logical..disconnected hood sensor..pulled fuses 6 and 7..took it to the dealer (they wanted 600 to replace all the sensors..bullsh*t on that), finally notice my lead battery terminal was extremely hot..so I cut off the old replaced it with new terminal..no problem since....good luck
