93 3/4 ton van

maybe someone can help me a little bit, i just picked up a 93 chevy van and transmission has a issue, in order to get it to shift i have to let up on the gas between gears...it wont shift if not...there is no slipping at all and no noise to speak of....but it wont shift unless i let off gas...once i do it runs smooth???? any ideas
