2000 Pontiac ac/heater switch???koolbike 06-07-2005, 01:36 PM Hi all, I have a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix thats ac/heater switch does not work in the #1 postion. All others, 2,3.4 and 5 work. Any sugestions as to what the problem is??? If the switch is the problem please advice on how to change the swith out?? I tried to remove the dash panel with no luck. Any and all help would be appriciated?? Thanks GTP Dad 06-07-2005, 07:43 PM It isn't the switch, the blower motor resistor is going bad and needs to be replaced. It is located under the dash, way up under the dash, next to the fan and costs about $39 from a GM dealer. You can change it yourself but you may want to remove the front seat to give you plenty of room to get up under the dash. Should take 6.5 mm socket to remove the bolts from the fan and resistor. Good Luck! koolbike 06-07-2005, 10:53 PM Thanks again GTP Dad, your help is greatly appriciated. Thanks for the imput on the fuel injectors, that problem is history........... Good Luck! Hi, I looked under the dash and could not make out where this resistor is or for that fact what it looks like. I remember how the older type looks mounted to the firewall. Is this inside the blower motor assembly?? You mentioned taking the motor out with the resistor. Please email in more detail, this is a first for me and i am alittle slow on this one. Thanks for the advice on the fuel injectors. I now have a power window regulator problem posted on a new thread. Thanks GTP Dad Al GTP Dad 06-10-2005, 11:46 AM The blower motor resistor is located next to the fan up under the dash. If you remove the fan motor the resistor should be right next to it. The fan takes a 6.5 mm socket and so does the resistor. It is an extremely confined area and removing the seat will help you get enough room to get into the area. It should be rectangular in nature and is located just to the front of the fan or to the side. I looked for a picture but could not find one for you. I'll keep looking. koolbike 06-10-2005, 01:12 PM The blower motor resistor is located next to the fan up under the dash. If you remove the fan motor the resistor should be right next to it. Thanks and i will try again this weekend. BNaylor 10-13-2006, 01:43 PM 2000 grand prix se 3.1 - replaced the fan blower resistor, worked for approx. 2 wks then went out again. also, when NOT working, if i turn to the fan switch to speeds 1-4 my headlights/daytime running lamps go out along with the fan not responding. to me, the untrained driver, it sounds like a serious issue. also, thanks so much for all the information AF users have provided so far. Sorry but we have a policy where old threads like this one (over year old) should not be resurrected. It is better to start a new thread since you do have a different and serious issue. Thread closed and I'll move your post to a new thread. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
