i need some suggestions... i've been desperately wanting to buy a Jeep Wrangler... I am willing to spend around 5-6 thousand dollars... nothing more... jus b/c i am on a tight budget...

i heard that wrangler's are big gas guzzler's, is that true? do these Wrangler's give good gas milliage? Also, I have been looking around, and there's Wranglers out there for $5 to 6,000, less than 100K and they're as new as "97-99"... are these good deals? what's the best model of these wrangler's should i be looking for?

any suggestion would help a lot... thanks all for reading....

Well, yes the gas mileage is poor. You shouldn't expect to get out of the 12 - 16 mpg range on the highway.

If you are going to buy one there are two options I would suggest on getting. Make sure you get a 6cyl, not the 4cyl (It really is underpowered and there is no huge MPG benefit by going with the smaller motor.) Make sure you get the Dana 44 rear axle, the Dana 35 rear is okay, but the 44 is a MUCH better choice.

We've gotten good mileage with our Wranglers, 02 6 cyl that regularly got 22mpg on the highway. We have the 3.07 gears and 225/75R15.

However on my 97 4 cyl, got 17mpg everywhere, whether on the highway or on the beach.

Sorry, models. 6cylinder, definitely. Don't recall the models for that year, probably Sport or Laredo.

I have a 4cyl mazda that used a ton of gas, as I hear here same goes for the 4cyl jeep. The 4L Inline 6 uses a ton of gas.

Well, it IS square and brick shaped, so not so aerodynamic.

As I said before, have always gotten 20+ mpg except with a '97 4 cyl.

Try being lighter on the gas under acceleration, you should see a big difference.
