Front shock removalJeffdz 06-06-2005, 09:33 AM Just replaced the rear shocks on my 2000 Grand Cherokee. No problem. Removing the front ones, is more challenging. Looks like you have to hold the top of the shock with a 6mm wrench while using a 15mm to remove the nut. Is there a trick or special tool for this? Also, on the drivers side, there is very little room to manuever the wrench in there. Should I look into removing part of the master cylinder to get to it. Your expertise in this is greatly appreciated. Thanks, JD SteveB05 06-06-2005, 10:01 AM The easiest way is with a 3/8 drive pneumatic impact. That gets it going fast enough that the friction on the bushings holds the shaft while the nut spins faster. In some cases, you do have to loosen the MC from the booster. Depends on if you can get a swivel adapter to gain clearance. Without that, Clamp a pair of vice grips on the shaft just above the body of the shock so that it hits the fender liner and holds the shaft while you then back the nut off. You won't want to do this putting the new one on, just use a small wrench to hold the top of the shaft. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
