94 1.9 missing...

For the last month my 94 escort has had a stalling problem at idle. I read on other posts that it could be the intake manifold gasket. I changed that and it ran perfect for 4 days. Now the acceleration is bad on it. It misses all the way up to 45-55 mph. I looked it over and I do not see any vacume lines off. Does anyone have any suggestions?

You may just have a bad hose... check over all your vacuum lines and make sure none of them are cracked or have holes in them. There is an "elbow" right on top of the valve cover that likes to get a crack on the back side of it where you can't see it... check it first.
When you say it is missing... are you sure it is actually missing? Or is there just some sputtering and hesitation?

BTW... if it is actually missing, chances are that new plugs and wires will take car of it.

It is sputtering and hesitation not missing. I misspoke earlier. I put new plugs and wires in it 6 months ago by the way. I checked all the vacume hoses and no leaks. I even changed the 02 sensor today and nothing. I am at a loose right now. This car is going to drive me nuts.

I may have misread your original post... is the car not longer stalling? Is it just a lack of poer that you have now?

It is just lack of power. It hesitates when you accelerate. It seems like it does it worse when it gets warmed up. I changed the 02 last night and it is no better.

Have a similar problem with my '91 GT manual. I can drive to work fine (georgia weather) when its cool out. Lunch time is fine if I only drive 20mins or so. But on the drive home in the stop and go traffic, after about 30mins I get severe hesitation/jumping when I accelerate. I can push the clutch in and rev the engine and it doesn't do it, only when its in gear. I can sputter the rest of the way home and park it till it cools, and it'll drive just fine.

Driving me crazy, I've changed fuel filter, air filter, distributor, rotor. Changed PCV valve/hose, new oil, new filter. All of this done within the last month. Its done this now 4 times in the last two months. Does yours do this all the time? Or only when its hot?

Check your PCV valve. It might be stuck open. Check by blowing into it. Air should pass one way, but not the other. Spray some carb cleaner into it, plug the ends and shake it. It will cause a bad idle or stalling if it is leaking. The EGR valve could be defective and be leaning the mixture out too much. You can check it by removing the vacuum line going to it and plugging it. If it runs better, There you go. If it ran good for 4 days after you replaced the gasket on the intake manifold, maybe the bolts to that should be retorqed again to 20 ft/lbs. The head could have warped on it some. If I may make just one more observation here. I'm not suggesting this as a fix, only as a diagnostic tool. You may be able to diagnose whether the problem is a too lean mixture or an ignition problem by disconnecting the
plug on the MAF sensor. This will cause the computer to enrich the mixture by default. If it runs better you will know its a too lean mixture problem rather than an ignition problem. Your check engine light will come on but will go off again as soon as you replace the electrical plug on the Mass Air Flow sensor. If it ran good for 4 days, I think your intake is leaking again. Torqe that sucker down again.

Hi, did you ever get this problem sorted out? I have the exact problem with my 94 Escort.

put AutoZones Double Silicone plug wires on. I can fry oem replacements in about 30ft.

I replaced my MAF sensor and it hasn't done it since.
