im putting indiglo gauges in my 98 neon..can i pull the needles off the cluster, or should i try to fit them over the needles? You have to pull the needles off. Do something first though, after you take the cluster out, lay it flat on it's back with the gauges facing up and see where the needles fall to. Pick it back up and place it back down. Do this a few times and write down where the needle falls to. So when you go back to put them on you know where to place them.

I cant pull the clust box out I can pull the plastic piece off and the paper gauges but not the piece behind it so I can face it up. I took all the screws out how does the stupid thing come out?? How would facing it up show you where to put the needles?

There are 4 #2 philips head screws around the cluster that hold the whole assy in.Take them out and the cluster should slide completely out.Like das2123 said once you have it out and the plastid lense off lay the cluster assy on it's back and let the needles just naturally rotate to their stopping point.Record where they land like at 27 mph on the speedo.Do it a couple times to get an accurate position to reinstall the needles.Good luck

hey, i had the same problem when i bought mine....

the BIGGEST problem i had though, was when i put the needles back on the gauge face i purchased, it layed on TOP of the stock one making it THAT much thicker

what i did was sand down the bottoms of the needles (the black circle that the orange pin comes off) i sanded them down to give them more clearance, because what was happening was the needles would stick because the base would rub on the gauge. I tried just barey putting the needle on the pin but it actually fell off when i went over bumps... it was a bigger project than i thought it was going to be.

im just saying u might have this problem...

The gauges i bought were made by Alfa Otto, and i bought them off of www.procarparts.com (they were awesome, they just gave me trouble getting them on)

good luck

hmmmm this sounds like it would work.....

if you pick up the whole gauge cluster and hold it with 2 hands facing you, up in the air at eye level, imagine that there were needles on the pins... if you held it like this the needles would rest back against the little black stoppers right? now lay it back down on its back and let it sit for the 5 minutes or so again until they rest... then just put the needles back on where you had them marked... do yknow what im sayn?

see i dont know if the pins will spin right around or if they're calibrated to only spin around and stop without the needles, because if they are calibrated to stop by themselves... then the thing above would work i would say but if they're NOT.... then i woulkd probly say to put the needles back on in any position (but in the same general position) and THEN do the thing above.... just try both process' with and without the needles on.. i think it should b fine... all i DO know is that when all was said and done with MY project... it was fine... except for the tach... it was reading alittle highfor what it should have been, other than that.. i think youll b fine...

good luck

I screwed my speedo and tach up and had to have a buddy with the same car ride next to me and clock me while adjusted the needles on the road while driving.Yeah not very safe but the gauges are accurate. The temp and fuel gauge should be easier just let the car warm up up a few minutes and set the needle at the norm.Fill your gas tank up and set the needle on the full position. That is how I did it maybe you will have the same luck.
