SwAP H22a to 93 civic 4d

im switching my prelude engine into my 93 civic. Will this be a smart move? ive heard ill get a power gain because of weight difference .. i want it fast but im not sure if i want 2 leave it in manual with the swap or auto.. im undecided whether 2 work on the engine so it can be a really fast car with auto tranny or just go the whole 9 for speed and get manual .. dont know if i want it as a racer or just show and eazy automatic ride so i can kick back and just riide instead of switching gears all the time.. what should i d0 :sly:

It's up to you whether you want the manual or auto. You're the one who is going to drive it, not any of us. Personally I wouldn't ever even buy an auto car (maybe as a beater to get me to work and back, but not as my only car), and it's quite expensive and time consuming to do the auto to manual conversion. However, you'll definently make better use of the engines power with the 5-speed over the auto. But definently do the conversion over upgrading internals, IMO.

ive heard ill get a power gain because of weight difference...That makes no sense at all. Weight difference won't give you more power gain, unless you're swapping in a lighter engine. And in this case, changing out a D-series to an H22a will create more weight; not less.

yes .. theres a big difference a prelude weighs 2700 and a civic weighs around 2200- 2300.. a 400- 500 pound difference racers would kill for.. but yeh im really leaning towards the manual alot id actually use the engine with the manual .. and another thing the bulk of an h22 doesnt exactly add weight 2 the car except 60- 70 pounds more than a b16 .. math is easy here .. and my car has a pitiful pitiful d15b7 engine in it at the moment which makes me want 2 cry cuz ive never heard of this engine before i got this car lol so thnx for the tranny opinion! big help .. [and so theres no confusion i mean there will be a power gain for the civic becuz of the more powerful engine in the lighter car than the prelude so the h22 will be doing alot better numbers]

Oh I gotcha, I misunderstood what you were saying. I didn't realize you were talking about the weight difference of the cars, I thought you ment the engines. You should expect to see low 14's to high 13's with no problem with the swap. Good luck with it.

i hear i have 2 buy a mount kit .. i know im gonna have 2 buy everything 2 convert it 2 manual .. the engine i mean . i have a shop a guy i know will do the swap 4 $700 but how much would u guys normally think the cost 2 be ? the transmission parts? the mount kit? the swap normally ? all this stuff just say i have no idea and let me know the costs of all this that U guys know 4 a civic H22 swap

I'd say roughly $4,000. Could be a little less, or could be more. Depends on what parts you go with and if you upgrade parts (clutch, flywheel, LSD, fuel rail, fuel pump, etc). It cost my friend right around $5,000 for the whole swap but upgraded a lot of parts; got the LSD tranny, sent out his wiring harness to hasport, suspension parts (a must for the swap).
