...which do you prefer, Brass or Aluminium sheet? Now brass costs almost twice as much as aluminium so what are its advantages?

Also does anyone have a link or tutorial about making your own doors?

Brass is much harder to bend than aluminum, and it's heavier, but it can also be soldered.

I can't see being able to form a compound curve out of brass nearly as easily as I can with aluminum.

Brass has advantages and disadvantages. Aluminum is sometimes better, and sometimes brass is better. Its different per application.

Which would be better for stuff that is load bearing or has movement, like doors or trunk lids?

Mike you'll know this. What metal are diecast's usually made from?

I would use brass for that because it's not as soft.
