How do.Ive recently bought 99 lumina 3.1 with 183,000.It takes a while to get out of first. As it reaches the high end of 1st gear it does shift if I let off the gas a little.Once I get out of first its ok.Car does fine on the highway but has to be nursed a little in town.Sometimes get a wiff of trans.fluid as im driving.Any ideas?

your 1-2 shift solenoid is sticking. I would suggest trying some seafoam or Trans-x first, as these treatments actually work. If they cannot free up the offending solenoid, then a mechanical repair (ie change the solenoid) is necessary.

I guess the modulator was done away with by that year?

If so, my 99 wasn't included. I still have a vacmod hanging off the intake. I belive it was 2000, with the new 65E transaxle, that the modulator was finally tossed. Not sure..

Thanks.I'll give it a shot.Im getting a po751 code and the trans.fluid smells/looks burned on further inspection.Guess I should be kinda concerned about the burnt fluid, huh?
