power steering noisekimper 06-03-2005, 11:35 AM Hey guys, I just bought a 2000 neon with 30000 miles and when I drive it for a while the power steering pump seems to make a noise when I turn the wheel. When I first get into the car it works fine but once I drive for 5-10 miles it starts making this noise like the fluids low, but the fluid is fine. Any suggestions??? my02r/t 06-03-2005, 12:40 PM Suck out the resivoir fluid and put a bottle of Lucas PS fluid back in! Worked great in two cars for me. One had a very tight spot and it went away. The other was a noise and it also went away. das2123 06-03-2005, 12:47 PM It's probably one of two things. 1)Your power steering belt is a little loose or it's starting to glaze over, causing the squeal 2)You have some air in the system which will also cause the squealing also. You can replace the PS fluid with a Valvoline synthetic PS fluid and retighten the belt. I have never heard of the Lucas fluid. my02r/t 06-03-2005, 02:21 PM Lucas sponsers Drag & other auto racing events. It will be in your auto parts store. look for stop leak & conditioner. For $7 a bottle it works. They make other additives for oil and transmissions products. das2123 06-03-2005, 02:45 PM Lucas sponsers Drag & other auto racing events. Just an FYI kimper 06-08-2005, 04:14 PM Thanks for all the options, I will probably try the lucas PS fluid. vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
