Did the trans shift correctly when you got the car? Do you know if the thieves cut and twisted the ignition harness wires together? They break the ignition so they can steer. Look at the wires that go to a plastic plug on the bottom of your transmission. Follow those wires up to the harness connection plug on top of the bellhousing to see if something was done there. That is the neutral safety switch. Did they damage any wires there? They do that so the car will start when it is in drive. Have you cleared the code and re-read with the replacement computer? Take the car to an independent transmission shop. The big well known national transmision chains are in business primarily to quote a competitive price and replace your transmission. They may or may not have someone working for them that is good at diagnostics. Don't authorize them to take your transmission apart as part of the diagnosis.

P1605 meens that the ECM is not getting information from the TCM. My guess is that the TCM is not getting power possibly due to what ever was involved with the ignition repair or a blown fuse. The ECM has a fuse and the TCM must have a fuse. Do you know if any wires were damaged or repaired?
