Raced an M5...

I raced an M5 just the other day in my Z06. I took him off of the line, and when we shut down, I had 4+ car lengths. It would have been closer If I didn't have all of my mods, but I think I still would have taken him.

You must be crazy, do you really feel it is important that you bet an M5. Come on, I mean really you cannot compare the difference from a Z06 to an M5. The BMW is a much better car overall. Who cares if you are faster. Have you ever had to brag about beating a four door sedan? So congrats, you beat a sedan!!!!!!!

Nah man, sorry to tell ya, but an M5 is not a sedan; its a Super sedan. ;)
And beating an M5 is pretty awesome.
I would rather have a Z06 than an M5 though.

Man then the M5 did a pretty good job compared to your Z06 if he was on your ass most of the time. Plus the BMW is a lot better car then the Vette maybe slower but its a really nice ride.

yeah, the M5 is heavier, roomier, more luxurious, bigger, and to top it all off it's still blazin FAST (for a SEDAN)

Corvette z06's reported 0-60 in 4.2(yeah it's should be 4.0 if the magazine had a good driver)

M5 0-60 is 4.7 according to Car and Driver(i think or Road and Track)

So yes, while a z06 should still beat the m5, the M5 is not in a different class.

The M5 was shown to beat a regular C5 in 0-60 and in the 1/4 mile, but it was blown away around the track against the C5.

I will look to find the exact magazine this came from.

Try racing another Z06 or an M3. Then it would be pretty cool to here about. M5's kick ass though. What colour is you car?

my friend's dad juss got an M5 it's sweet, white.... those rims are huge! he said he's gunna let me drive it next weekend :finger:

you cant compare the zo6 and m5 fairly, as they are two diff cars.
but it must be said that people who have never driven an m5 or zo6 should not decide that bmw is the shiznit of cars simply b/c they like it.

and either way, i would take either car, but when i spend about half the cash to buy a zo6 and have almost enough for an m3 left over...

oh yeah... who won the 24 at daytona? vette. which car is actually in production, not the mclaren. dont compare super exotic purpose built motors to a street vette. we all know that the mclaren is amazing.
and, the vette zo6 has a titanium exhaust... that is just fuggin cool...
and remember, the zo6 only has a slight increase in power, it is lighter and stickier, that is where the increases are... the m5 added a monster motor...
so compare the c5 and 540, and the c5 wins... compare the c5 and m5, and the c5 will win overall...
then drop a zo6 in... who would win...hmm...
but dont compare sedans and sports cars...
cuz it is unfair to compare cars in different classes, so no comparing turbo civics to vettes, or anything like that... cuz they arent in the same League... riiiiight

even comparing the Z06, I would take the M5 over a Z06, it's sooooo much more than just a fast car

let's see an M5 weighs almost 4000 lbs it has double the room, double the luxury, and still goes 0-60 in 4.8s

now the Z06 weighs about a 1000 lbs less and does 0-60 in 4.6s

it's a personal choice, but for me M5 all the way

i've never drivin a Z06 though

even the Z06 is only .2 seconds faster than the M5, so it's basically up to the driver.... and i still think the M5 is a better car, it packs way more than just a fast, 2 seater that can only be drivin in the summer

Porsche...my car is black w/ a torch red interior. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that I was in the opposite lane from the M5, behind another car. There was no one behind the M5, so I revved at him and he revved back. When the light changed, he took off, and I pulled out behind him. Then I came from behind and went around. That is why I only had four lengths on him. I figured he would have been farther ahead of me because of all that manuevering. It was probably driver error on his part.

Yes, the Corvette and M5 are in different leagues. Yes, they both do different things better than the other. But they are both fast as hell, and whether you like one or the other is your own opinion.

This whole thing started when it was mentioned that you should not compare a Z06 to a M5, and that it was a stupid race. Now you're saying how close their acceleration times are...why not compare or race a Z06 to a M5 if they are that close performance wise? You all have your own opinions, just realize that they are yours and should not be everyone elses.

Feel free to keep comparing the cars, just tone it down a little please.

flylwsi, i agree wit you that the vette is waaayy sportier and stuff but IMO i like the M5 better.... that's just my opinion, i respect that you like the vette better

It's a European Ford Escort RS Cosworth. Same as the little cartoon car there. It's a European Escort all souped up by Cosworth, they made 7145 of them. About 25 have made it to North America. They are basically a rally car for the road, 4WD, with a longitudinally mounted engine instead of transverse. They have 227 hp from the factory, so you can imagine the speed of a 227 hp 4WD Escort :D:D. Quite a few have been bumped up to around 350 hp for even more fun. Sun international (www.suninternational-usa.com) imports them to North America (along with old WRXes, Lancer Evos, Lotus Elises, etc.), and they currently have a 350 hp one for sale, $40,000 US imported and federalized. Now I just need the money..... :)

I saw a car just like yours at the Ottawa Auto Show, it looked sweet, well then again, any Z06 is sweet. Heep, I saw a high speed chase on TLC the other day and a 14 year-old in Britain had stolen one of those and was smoking the cops for about 15 minutes and then he took a turn to fast and slide into a patch of trees, the car and the 6 month-old child he had with him were fine. That car can really move!

Whats the point in racing an M3. The M5 is just as fast if not faster. I think Mr.Z06 knows that he has a Z06. You must have one hell of a Z06 to get 4 car lengths. But good going man.

I saw few magazines that compared a 2002 Z06 with 2002 Viper GTS and they both went to 60mph in the same time. After that the viper had a slight shorter times to 100 and the 1/4 mile. The 01 Z06 is only slower than the 02 Z06 with .2sec to 60mph which is nothing. The 02 Z06 got to 60mph is 4.0 i saw few 4.1 so the 01Z06 will get to 60mph in say worse 4.4. The M5 best i have ever seen was 4.7 to 60mph. I think it was motor trend but it gets to the 1/4 mile in 13.0-13.2 at 108-109 compared with the 12.7-12.8 at 113-114 for the 01Z06. Hell i can take out a M5 with my Camaro let alone a 01 Z06 with mods.

how much are cosworths going for over there? in the US, a unmodified T25 from 1995 is about 30,000 dollars, or 45,000 pounds sterling, if you can find one...

I own a modified C5, LS6 motor producing over 500 HP and I also own a 2003 M3 six speed.

The corvette is an awesome car-- Tremendous straight line acceleration and excellent handling. My C5 does the quarter mile in the mid-10 sec range with automatic transmission.

However, the M3 is in an entirely different class. It is sophisticated and powerful. It outhandles the vette easily and accelerates as fast as a stock C5 only with a back seat and a trunk.

The M5 is extremely similar in power and handling as the M3.

IMO, BMW out classes and will outperform the C5 in many categories.

In the end the BMW is the real winner! It has a greater residual value and in the case of the M3 vs. C5-- the M3 is only a little 6 cylinder!!!

Swallow that one C5!!

Go get yourself that RS4 or whatever...yes it has the most hp of the 3 but it is the haviest, has the most drivetrain loss, and is a wagon.

The RS6 will beat the M5 yes, but it wont even come close to a Z06.

First of all, the RS6 is not a wagon - And as far as being a faster car than a ZO6, you might be right, but it also depends on your elevation. A turbo engine isn't really hurt by the thin air, whereas you will lose about 3% of you engines power for every 1,000 feet of elevation. Very important in a lot of states. Although I've seen some bad Vette's. Totally different cars, but I'd like to see them get it on!

And FYI, the new S4 engine is a naturally aspirated V8 with close to 350hp.

First of all, the S4 isn't NA. It is twin turbo intercooled. And second it is a V6 not a V8.
