9300 Rpm!!!

Want to see what 9300 RPM will do to your type-s? Actually, it may haved revved higher than that, that is just what the freeze data said when the code set. 9300 RPM, 81 MPH, throttle wide open. The guy said he missed a shift (most likely trying to race and went from 5th to 2nd instead of fourth). Anyhow on to the pics.
Yeah, that used to be a valve stem and face.

Far away of the cylinder head. Notice the missing valve.

Close up of the head. Yummy. The valve face beat around in there for awhile.

Far away of the block. Is that a piston?

Yep used to be. Close up.

The old Engine and trans removed.

Me dropping the new unit in place. Or actually raising it in place.

Another of the new head and block assembled and going in.

I hope none of you guys have to experience this. You would faint if you saw the bill.

Ouch, sorry to hear that.

Why didn't you get a JDM tranny and engine :D Or a K24 block....

its not my car, if it were, i definatley would have gone that route. But the customer wanted it to go back in all stock, minus the CAI that was on it.

There was a kid from my high school a year back that was redlining in 3rd and went to shift to 4th went into 2nd and did the exact same thing....moron

Things like that make me want to cry.

That engine, and tranny would have been so happy living in my car... *sigh*

Anyone ever see the video where a guy was on a test drive, pushed the car completely and i'm not sure what he downshifted from (I think it was 5th to 2 or something) and the whole car shook and the tach almost went all the way around back to zero (like 14000 RPM).

This is happening way too often.
It's not driver error anymore; it's poor transmission design.
There are thousands of Integra GSRs driving around and being redlined.
The RSX has a great racing engine, but gearbox is not designed for racing.

I have to agree with Mendari......I'm not comfortable with driving much beyond granny style with this tranny.....too much grinding and stubborness.

Sad, since even though my base isn't very fast, it feels slower still since I don't like to push my tranny.

Amen to sivic - I would love to have an A2 in my base, at least for a few days until I got the gas bill.

I have to disagree. I had grinding a while ago but now I don't, and I don't fear misshifting. I'm very happy with it.

I've seen blown engines just as frequently in many other cars, I believe it comes down to driver error.

Im gonna have to agree with canuck on this. I know a few guys who take their type s to the track usually every weekend, run it hard, occasionally misshift, nothings blown up yet. It has to be driver error, for the most part. The k-series gearboxes have had some complaints but most of the stories I have heard about things getting screwed up isnt with the hardcore racers, its with inexperienced people who think since they have a fast car they are invincible....when we all know im the only one who is invincible...

Well, of course it is driver error.........just that other boxes I have driven I don't recall being so ambiguous. Maybe it is partly because I drove automatics almost exclusively for so long.

Surprised to hear that racers occasionally mis-shift without serious damage! I haven't mis-shifted since my first week or two with this car, though I came close a few days ago.

At least sivic is invincible, if our gearboxes aren't!

When I was pushing the Rsx hard I didnt take a chance with misshifting, it wasnt worth the millisecond id gain shifting faster if I would blow my engine on a damn lease...the Acura ppl would NOT have been happy with me...and I never found it hard to tell the difference between 4th and 2nd, or 3rd and 1st, they all seemed pretty obvious to me...

now the legacy is a different story, I dont like the tranny in the Legacy at all, and I especially hate the clutch...but this is all compared to the Rsx

My brother drove my RSX this weekend for the first time. He never mis-shifted and the freakin thing didn't grind once for him.

He didn't exactly race the car, but he drove it harder than I do on average. Maybe I don't drive it hard enough!?

He says the box and clutch feel great, and he's driven more sticks than I have. (I believe his most recent stick was a Chevy pickup truck.......)

Yeah...I'd have to say it's more a matter of careless shifting. My brother is able to transition easily from his GSR to my Type-S. He's never misshifted (thank god) even when blasting through the gears. Loves the Type-S transmission. And I'm usually able to catch any shifting error (catch or misshift) I make before I fully let up off the clutch. I don't have much sympathy for the morons who do this to their cars...I think it's funny.
