Although this page is directed toward MR2s, it applies to most other cars:

Q: What is hill climbing?
A: Solo events through a timed course that goes uphill.

An interesting aspect of this sport is that it takes place on public roads. The events are 100% legal and the roads are closed and cleared for everyone's safety. It is like doing an autocross on publicroads, but your speeds will reach well over 100 mph.

There is a lot more information to be found here:
http://www.pahillclimb.org/

If you go to my Web site, click on Hyde and then multimedia you can find some of my in-car footage of hill climb racing.

I have been spectating for years (20+) and I just started actually racing myself last year.
It is the most exciting thing I have ever done in motorsports.

Let me know if you all have any questions, I would be more than happy to help you out.

I'd love to race up the mountains of Michigan. (For those of you that are not from Michigan, there are absolutely no mountains whatsoever in Michigan). There are a couple or roads in my area that I'd love to race on, but I'm unaware of any such organized event. Plus, I couldn't afford a roll bar. Eh, that's what Saturday afternoons are for.

My roll bar was $600 installed and it meets NHRA and SCCA requirements.

Yeah, but don't forget that the "turbo kit" for the non-mr2 is about $800-$1200 (basically using stock 3s parts), and I'd rather spend my money on that, or a new suspension. Plus I'd rather have 180-200 rwhp than a rollbar.

Problem with the SCCA is that all the good events are out of my state, I need to move!
All I get to do around here is roll around in an empty parking lot trying to avoid hitting tiny cones, its awsome fun for all 42 seconds!

once again J&H, I'm jelous! :swear:

The hill climbs are only 60- second or so ... but we cover over a mile :D

... one hill climb is over 2 minutes and that is over 2 miles.

Autocrossing is great fun, but hill climbing ... well ... it's much more :)

Civic ... it's not fighting words, it's just the way it is. :)

autocross = foreplay
hill climbing = menage trois

Which would you rather be doing?
