I just bought a 95 civic with a jdm d15b engine and im not sure but i think its not v-yec. Everything I know and have seen tells me that it isnt. The plugs are facing the tb not the front bumper. It has a good bit of power but only around 4800 rpms and it is crap going up a hill. So I am torn between is or isnt. I checked the engine marking to make sure it was a jdm engine and it is but I still have my doubts about the vtec.
HELP!!
And also I noticed that if I drive it a long way that when I am stopped for a while, like in a drive thru, that it will start to overheat but goes down quickly when I take off. Any help is greatly accepted.
Thanks

If it is an actual JDM D15B then it should have the VTEC emblem on the Valve cover. I just recently swapped one into my Civic. But, from how you describe it performs, I don't think it is. Get some pics of your motor up if you can.

hi what yr is your car, as i have an n-reg ('96) but it is a 92/95 shell, and for some reason i ended up with a 1.6 block from factory. this is where it gets funny, i have 2 power bands (like vtec but not vtec) one dies at about 4500rpm then the next kicks in at about 5750rpm this one goes all the way to 7250 where it redlines. is your car a coupe, hatch or saloon as i think that will make a difference...
