altima 97 warning lights problemmead04 05-22-2005, 08:54 PM Altima 97 157,000 miles. When the gas is pushed to accelerate the break and battery red lights are lit up simultatniously and go away when I have stopped accelarating. what could be the cause? Thanks 4trackmixtape 05-22-2005, 09:59 PM Maybe a short in the dash? I can't imagine those two systems would have a related problem, but I could be wrong. JustSayGo 05-22-2005, 10:42 PM The brushes in the alternator are probably worn. As the alternator turns faster the brushes float and it quits or almost quits charging until it slows down again. Another possibility is an open connection in the rotor winding caused by centrifigul force. Test the alternator output at 2000 rpm and 4000 rpm. Very likely you will find that the output is lower at 4000 rpm and doesn't meet specs. The alternator will also effect other lights sometimes. wonword 05-23-2005, 09:25 PM Listen to JustSayGo, he's a smart man. mead04 05-23-2005, 09:31 PM Thank you all. I replaced the alternator about 4 months ago, new belts about 8 months ago. Someone told me it could be a loose belt, causing slipage. Coud a loose belt have same effect? Thanks JustSayGo 05-24-2005, 04:04 AM Check the belt adjustment. Visually inspect the wiring and connections at the alternator. An alternator driven by a very loose V-belt can charge a few amps at idle and completely slip on acceleration. When did the lights start comming on? AutoZone will test your charging system for free. I still suspect there is a loose connection inside of the alternator no matter how recently it was rebuilt. Are you powering an amp? mead04 05-26-2005, 09:31 PM JustsayGo you are amazing... the local STS shop did an electrical test fot $25 and found a loose connection..problem fixed...Thank you....half of the ads on this site should be going to guys like you! vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
