hi guys
im due with my timing belt with 151,000 in my odometer. i would like to know if i change my timing belt, which parts come with it that needed to be changed. ive heared that water pump and tensioner also needed to be changed. is there anything else?
what are the things i should consider.
thanks

Wow, you put 150K on that car in 5 year? You must love driving....
Belts: I would look at the other belts and see what's the condition. If there are cracks on the back, it's a good idea to replace.
Water pump : The dealer always wants you to replace it with the timing belt. The reason is the labor is expensive and what it takes is almost the same as replacing the TB. But since I take care of my own car, my philosophy is "why fix it if it's not out of order?". My 88 Camry has over 190k on it and it still holds the original TB and WP. I check the condition of the TB about every 2 years or 30k and keep a picture of it. Don't notice any condition change so far.
Tensioner: I really don't think you need this.

You might as well replace the pump while you are in there. Not hard to do.

Murphy ain't far away when it comes to cars, planes & electricity.
Advise you R&R the water pump, else it fails next week at 5 pm
on the Cross Bronx Expressway.

Does the manual recommend changing it? My 1995 Camry manual only says to change it only under severe conditions (Trailer towing, operating on dusty, muddy, rough, salted roads, repeated shorttrips of 5 miles or less, extensive idling or low speed driving). Since it's a non-interference engine, I'm leaving mine alone. It has 140,000 miles.

I would replace the water pump. My 2000 camry has 103,000 on it and the water pump went out about 94-95,000. If your going to take the time to take everything off the front of the motor to replace the timming belt it makes sense. Consider it insurance.
