Shift Boot

I was taking my shift boot off so I could replace it with a new one and the metal hardness part that holds the shift boot to the dash broke off. Is there anyway I could put back on a shift boot without the metal hardness thing? Because there seems like no way to have put a shift boot on because there is nothing to clip is on.

Here's a picture:

Not really sure what you mean... That mounting ring looks fine to me. There should be some slits in the bottom of the boot around the edges, put the tabs in the mounting ring through the slits and fold them down (the metal is pretty soft). Then screw that sucker back on.

I broke the plastic thing that holds and screws on the metal part. Like it like broke it off on accident.

I had a few of the plastic tabs (the ones towards the back of the car) break off as well. What I was able to do to hold the metal ring/shift boot up was stick a piece of foam under the ring to support it.

Could you go in more detail of how to do etc.?

Sounds like it's time to get creative with the epoxy ^_^
Try a 2 part epoxy, either to glue the shit back together, or as a poor mans way to make something to screw into. I've had success in both cases (NOTE: don't do this for load bearing pieces, but for asthetic fixes its ok).

Well I think I could get some clips for it since I don't want to clue it or drills holes in my car.
