I was reading the FAQ’s and I see #13 is a deckplate modification that will increase performance.

1)Has anyone made this modification?

2)What performance have you experienced? (Power, Better gas mileage?)

3)Is this mod worth the effort?

Regards
Don

It is a very common mod. I have done it a couple of times and I can't say it changed the performance much during normal driving. WOT is noiser and shows a bit more power. In the watorra link, he claims an 8hp increase, but I believe he has a S/C.

I don't see any difference in gas mileage before-after. There may be a difference during expressway driving, but I don't do that much and can't discuss it knowledgably.

The mod is quite simple for the 3.4L engine and is probably worth the effort.

Here's a link or two:

An alternative mod with about the same results is to remove the bend in the air intake in the 3rd gen 4Runner wheel well, outboard of the airbox. This is discussed in Gadget's website:

In both cases, the better the flow of your airfilter element, the more improvement you will see since the airbox is no longer an upstream restriction to airflow.
