Gathering info on Nelson tuneBlenderWizard 05-19-2005, 03:32 AM Anyone who has a nelson tune, I am interested in seeing if you have any MPG gains due to the Nelson PCM. Please post your data concerning this. I am trying to decide if it would be cost effective for me to purchase a Nelson tune, and if a noticeable MPG gain exists due to the tune, then I could see how it would be cost effective for me. thank you 01Blackerado 05-19-2005, 08:26 AM Yeah there definately is a singificant gain...but unfortunatley i dont track as religiously as most do. I do know i went from puting 10bucks a day (93 octane of course) to only puting in 10 bucks every three days!! jeverett 05-19-2005, 08:40 AM I think I got around 15 or so w/Hypercrap and 93 octane. same driving style (if not worse!!) with the Nelson yeilded about 17 or 18, on 93 octane. I drive the hell out of mine, so its not very "efficient"..I could get better. beer-b-q 05-19-2005, 04:42 PM With the nelson tune will your truck still pass emission testing? BlenderWizard 05-19-2005, 06:00 PM I wonder how well an 87 octane tune works? I'd like to keep mine running on 87. It's cheaper. jethro_3 05-19-2005, 07:08 PM That 18+ was on 87 oct going 90 -95 down the hwy. And in the city I gained the 1.3+ even with a heavy foot. BlenderWizard 05-19-2005, 11:18 PM Well, I presented the info to my wife on the increased MPG, and she agreed that it made total sense to get it. I called Nelson Performance at about 4 p.m. CST today, and left a message. If my servo gets here tomorrow or Saturday it will be going in this weekend. Like I said, I do want to stay with the 87 octane gas. Is Allen pretty thorough when he interviews you about your tune? Is there anything I should ask for specifically? What kind of hp/torque gains do you think I could expect over stock on a 5.3L? BlenderWizard 05-19-2005, 11:26 PM Basically, will I be able to do more than just chirp my back wheels (I have a factory LSD)? :bananasmi :bananasmi :ylsuper: jethro_3 05-19-2005, 11:53 PM So Blendwizard, when did the factory create a drug factory? (Factory LSD) I couldn't pass that one up..... I am meeting with Allen Fri PM at the drag strip to touch up what changed when I installed my servo. I will tell you how fast his Goat goes in the 1/4 and how fast mine is in the 1/4. For some reason I can not pass up the opportunity to find out how fast that toy of mine can go for $15 for the whole night on Test & Tune night at the strip. So you won the mind over matter trick? How bad did you scrap your knees when begging? :ylsuper: Congrats and good luck on the tune!! BlenderWizard 05-20-2005, 07:59 AM No, you don't have to beg my wife. You just have to present things to her in a logical manner. What i did is take how much MPG i'm getting right now, and the money i've spet on gas since May 1. I then figured how much I would have spent on gas if I had been getting an extra 1.5 MPG. As of now, the difference is just a little over $30. I just bought the truck, so obviously I'll be keeping it for a while. So, if I'm saving roughly $50 a month in gas, not only will the PCM pay for itself, but we'll be saving a TON of mone in the lifespan of the truck. jethro_3 05-20-2005, 08:04 AM All in jest, all in jest. When my obsession started everyone in my office thought I was nuts and I found ways to make it sound good and now I think they see it my way, I think..... jeverett 05-20-2005, 08:34 AM I just told them all to FO if they had a problem with me being faster than them and still getting the same, if not better mileage!! There are still people that ask "why are you doing all this to a truck, and a 4wd one at that?" 01Blackerado 05-20-2005, 08:58 AM Yeah I used to get asked that alot, then i showed them parish's videos and they were like "holy crap". All's I could say was yyyyyyep :D and those are his stock 265/75's  beer-b-q 05-20-2005, 09:16 AM Do you have a link to the parish video? 01Blackerado 05-20-2005, 09:21 AM www.1320video.com then click on videos up top. enjoy :D beer-b-q 05-20-2005, 09:49 AM Will the nelson tune void the chevy warranty on the computer. BlenderWizard 05-20-2005, 09:52 AM The only thing dealers have ever told me will void the warranty is INTERNAL engine mods. I have not talked to Allen yet, but I will ask him when I talk to him. I don't have much warranty left, anyway. 01Blackerado 05-20-2005, 10:02 AM No it doesnt void the warranty, but If you take it in for maintenance make sure you tell them not to program the PCM because it has a custom tune on it right now vBulletin®, Copyright ©2009, Jelsoft Enterprises Ltd.
