View Full Version : shift lock drift? shift lock drift? supdawg 05-18-2005, 07:19 PM 240SXSlideStar 05-18-2005, 07:40 PM Shift lock is when you are high in a gear and you downshift and just let off the clutch without matching the revs, so what happens is that when the clutch connects with the flywheel, the both the engine and the wheel come under shock because their speed is so far apart. The engine slows down quickly and since the wheels can't speed up quickly they just lock up. AWDSR20 05-18-2005, 07:47 PM ie not gooood for ur car... clutch kick it! 240SXSlideStar 05-18-2005, 08:15 PM Clutch kick is just as hard on the car as shift lock. slideways... 05-19-2005, 01:34 AM yeah to simplify, you ever downshift and let off the clutch and feel that drag slowing the car down? heel-toe shifting eliminates that drag so when you dont heel-toe, the combination of weight transfer and the rear wheels trying to go slower than the road will swing out the back end 240SXSlideStar 05-19-2005, 02:10 AM Am I the only one who can't heel-toe cause my legs and feet are to long? Is there some trick to it when you have long legs and big feet? Maybe with a steering wheel spacer..... slideways... 05-19-2005, 04:14 AM keeping your foot straight, use the left side of your foot to brake and the right side to blip the gas only way to do it with big feet and/or long legs R.W.240 05-19-2005, 10:42 AM keeping your foot straight, use the left side of your foot to brake and the right side to blip the gas only way to do it with big feet and/or long legs Werd. I dunno. Id do a Clutch kick before shift lock. I get scurred when engines are forcibly revved up. sounds like they're about to blow. GSR2NR94 05-20-2005, 11:18 AM I usually clutch kick it, but sometimes if needed, I will use shift lock. It is a liitle easier to do the heel toe in the JDM cars because there is a little more room for their feet in between the door panel and the gas pedal where as compared to the room that we have between our gas pedal and the tranny housing (center console). We still find a way to do it though. Its not that big of a difference. Related Links Participate in thousands of discussions at AutomotiveForums.com! Registration is absolutely free. |
