A and M systembimmerchris 05-18-2005, 04:55 PM i was wondering cause i just bought my 1993 325is and i was wondering whihc 1 was better the automatic or the manuel system...... and if i do use the manuel do i use the 1 2 3 numbers in the bottom and if theres a 4 and 5th gear if u you know this i would really appreciate it thanx Celsdogg 05-18-2005, 05:00 PM i am guessing that your Bimmer has an Automatic transmission. for the most part, it is better to just let it shift itself. those options are there, just like in most other cars, to give you control over engine speed, etc. if you need it. say you need to accelerate quickly while ure on the highway going 60. drop a gear, and it will throw the engine speed into its power band and give you a quick boost. im not sure if the E36 has a sport mode like my automatic E30. In the E30 it simply means that the shift pattern changes, and it holds it in a more direct third gear, instead of going into the economy 4th gear (overdrive). dont expect performance on par with a manual. it still after all, an automatic, no matter which way you put it. bimmerchris 05-18-2005, 05:34 PM yea im just asking cuz i like manuel better but w/e o this is prob a dumb question but do you know the specs of the 325 is llike hp n torque Celsdogg 05-18-2005, 10:41 PM its something like 189hp and 181 lb/ft of torque. go to edmunds.com, it will give you all kinds of stats. also, for less accurate speed stats visit car-stats.com. it is less accurate, but a little more fun.
